Nothing fancy this weekend... didn't get the seat heaters installed, but I did manage to replace both my leaking cab vents. At least there's no more musty smells. I would definitely recommend folks to check theirs. I didn't see signs of mine leaking until I removed my sub and found a wet floor underneath.

Not my first snow and I know it’s not much compared to y’all northern fellas but Wanda got her first “snow” under my ownership..
More like frozen rain but it looks close enough

Truck is currently at a 4x4 shop getting a TrueTrac installed.
Picked it up after work, it drives just about the same. It spun both back tires on the icy road away from the shop so I'm sure it's working, but I'll have to figure out a better test. Looks clean and they gave me the stock carrier back also.

He said not much for break in, fluid change at 3k to make sure there's no wear in metal but there shouldn't be anything to worry about, especially since we didn't do new gears. I'll probably swap to Red Line 75-140 NS at that time.

Ordered a new oem drain plug, oem fill plug, allen key for the drain (mine's blocked in storage), fluid hand pump, and 3 qts Red Line 75W140NS to do the rear diff fluid exchange in 3-4 gas tanks.

I know Eaton says it's preferred not to use synthetic but I can't not use Red Line gear oil. I dropped Red Line and Eaton an email asking them both the same question if that oil would be good for the TrueTrac in a Ram so we'll see what they say.

Make sure that the gear lube DOES NOT HAVE friction modifier in it. If the bottle says something to the effect of "These products contain the extreme pressure additives necessary for ultimate protection road cars and racing vehicles, as well as friction modifiers (except NS) for proper limited-slip operation or friction modifer not required to top off" need to be avoided.

What kind of oil should I use for my Detroit Truetrac? Can I use synthetic? Do I need friction additive/modifier?

  • A quality, petroleum-mineral based, GL5 rated 80w-90 gear oil should be used.
  • Synthetic oils are not recommended for Truetrac applications. While some customers have found that synthetic oils works well in this application, Eaton has not confirmed under test conditions that all synthetic oils are compatible with Detroit Truetrac applications.
  • Friction modifiers should not be used because they will decrease performance (reduce differential bias).

Also when you have some slippin going on, throw in a lil brake torque . When I was "crawling" or having issues with slipping, I would put a click or 2 on the E-brake. It was easier in the jeep because of the hand brake. Here is a great video showing it

Yup I've been reading as much as I can, that's why I'm going to go with the Red Line NS, doesn't have the friction modifier in it.

I finally installed the seat heaters in my BigHorn. Took me most of the day, but they work great.

I used a fuse tap where the normal seat heater fuse goes (there was actually a fuse already installed there) and then ran a power wire into the cab. Removed both seats, stripped back the cloth and installed the heater pads. I spent a good deal of time routing wires and making sure the harnesses were clean and buttoned up.

I pulled the cloth seat covers back as far as possible and didn't have to cut any from the heater pads. Since I didn't have any hog rings, I used thick zip ties in place of those. Can't even tell the seat covers have ever been removed. Installed the switches in the flat area on the center console just below the radio (one on each side).

Rear seats removed and cleaned, rear cab vents swapped out, old ones were destroyed. Pretty confident that was the source of the under seat water I've been seeing. Also got my Pedal Commander pulled out to get ready for a switch panel install.

Installed a wireless Carplay adapter, no more fumbling with the cable to get carplay on screen anymore. Great addition and love having it connect as soon as I start the truck. low priced too on amazon for 60.00

Started mocking up the fuse panel location (idea stolen from SDHQ SwitchPro mount) and got the switch panel put in. Grabbing some aluminum angle to mount a circuit breaker next to the fuse panel then finalize mounting/wiring.

Changed rear brakes (they failed inspection due to worn pads). Replaced with coated NAPA ultra Premium Brake Rotor, NAPA Ultra Premium Rear Brake Pads Ceramic, and replaced the hardware including rubber boots.

The seat removal and all that took way longer than the vent swap, the vents took less than a minute each. The passenger side I removed and reinstalled through the vent hole from the inside of the truck, the driver side came out through the vent but I couldn't get the new one in that way so I pushed it up through the gap from under the truck. Pulled through and snapped in easy.
