I have a set of AHR cat-less long tubes and Remflex gaskets on the way. Should be delivered on Thursday and if all goes as planned, I’ll be tackling the installation this weekend. I’ve watched all the videos and read all the threads I could find. I’m aware of the broken bolt removal process, which I’m dreading since I’m confident three of the passenger side are broke.

I feel I’m well prepared to complete the install, but wanted to ask if any of you have any tips, tricks or secrets that may make the process go as smoothly as possible.

Appreciate any help!

Flexible head ratcheting wrenches, and a welder for the broken bolts were my keys to success.

To add to Daniels post a 1/4" drive rachet / and extensions also works on a few of the bolts. If you remove the steering shaft, securely tie the steering wheel so it can't turn.If your truck is a 4X4 the lower bolt on the dipstick tube probably won't come out, you'll either have to cut the head off the bolt or cut the dipstick tube bracket,i usually back the bolt out as far as possible, then get in behind the bolt head and use a dremel to cut it off,and turn it into a stud . Check clearance on the drivers side frame rail around the fuel and brake lines, you might want to move the bracket and lines up,so heat and header rub doesn't bugger them up.Lots of guys don't like header wrap, but i swear by it,it accomplishes a few things,#1 it keeps more heat in the primaries to promote cylinder scavenging,#2 it keeps under hood heat down, which prolongs the life of any wiring or lines in the vicinity of the headers, and #3 it keeps the knock sensors alot happier, and they won't be in the habit of pulling timing on you, when they pick up noises from the headers. DO NOT bend or flex the Remflex gaskets, they don't like being bent/flexed. Buy beer and band aids you'll need them, lol

Appreciate all the tips! @Wild one, I briefly considered wrapping them once they came in but wasn’t sure if it was necessary; I’ll reconsider. Keep the help coming! I’ll need it!
If you do decide to wrap them, soak the header wrap in water before using, not only does it lay better wet,it's also alot nicer to handle,it's not quite as itchy to handle when wet. The really important thing to do,is to tie the steering wheel so it can't turn when you disconnect the steering shaft,if it happens to turn,it'll cause you all kinds of issues. You'll also want to look the welds over very close,as ARH's quality control seems to have gone downhill since Covid, there's been a few guys who've had issues with the welds at the flanges and primary tubes leaking lately,so give them a real close look over when you pull the headers out of the box,ARH has been fixing them, but it sucks finding out they're leaking after you've installed them.By the sounds of it,they're fixing them if you send them back, but you're on the hook for the shipping costs,so if you do find iffy looking welds, you're probably better off finding a good welder and having them tig welded.

You need to make a "Hemi Cookbook" with all of your invaluable knowledge for real. would be quite a read. I would buy it :)

I second this! I have been out of the modification game for several years after I sold my power stroke in 2012. I plan on holding on to this truck until my son is old enough to drive. He may end up with a fully built hemi when the time comes……I greatly appreciate the valuable knowledge!

WildOne could open a Facilty and cater to us wannabe mechanics that never made the grade and do Headers for us Canucks...I for one would buy a set of Shorties of whatever make he advised and get in line for an install. Short drive from Saskatoon and have a buddy to stay with..just a good vibe when you know the guy doing the job is not Totally $$$ oriented and has a wealth of experience....has to be worth his while....just thinking out loud..lol

Noted. Any specific header wrap you would recommend?

I prefer DEI's titanium wrap, but holy **** has it gone up in price lately. I still have a roll on hand, but i think i'll quit giving it away now, lol. There are cheaper varieties kicking around if DEI's price isn't in the budget, you'll want at least (2) 50ft rolls of 2" header wrap to do them completely. There's a couple video's on the link ,and if you go to youtube there's lots of video's that are worth watching if you've never used header wrap before

No matter what they say about wetting it,i still do,as it lays nicer .

Anyone have a tip on getting the O2 sensor connections apart located above the transmission?
Looking at re-installing my ARH LT’s that I have removed before I sold my previous truck
Separating the four sensor connectors that you can barely feel/see is the only thing that I’m really dreading on re-installing my headers- love to hear someones easy move

Yep nice to dream ( for me at least) but shorty wrapped headers plus installation for no real purpose kinda kills itself..umless i will the 649 then it really will not matter...in my dreqam world..6.4 manifold, cam,and cat back exhaust..and that would be it..$5 K later...at least!
