The UConnect 4 8.4" radio in our 2018 Laramie has decided to go nuts. When I start the truck for the first time of the day various things happen like: the screen continuously scrolls through all of the Sirius channels, the backup screen comes on even though I'm driving forward, loses station presets, changes channels on its own, and the climate icon bounce up and down at the bottom of the screen like a yo-yo. After driving for a few miles things will start to act normal.

I called the Stealership and they want $2000 for a replacement radio. Has anyone experienced these problems? If you replaced your head unit with an after market one, what did you go with and have you had any other issues? Thanks

@RamCares may be able to help you with this. There was a run of defective radios that result in ghost touches and screen delamination. They have helped others get their radio replaced even when out of warranty.

Sounds like screen delamination, I think this is a known issue with the 2018s as far as I remember.
I can see no delimitation of the screen when I look at it.

I haven't any confidence in Ramcares because of their involvement in the issues I have had with the radio in our 2022. To shorten the story, the original radio was replaced but the replacement radio is also defective. Ramcares told me there was a 14 day period to close the work number. However, they never answered my email nor returned my phone call. Ram could give a sh#t less about us and Ramcares is just a political ploy to massage our aches. What good is a warranty when the manufacturer doesn't standby it?

Now, for some good news. The radio in the 18 has worked just fine the last three times we have used it. Yippee!! Sure hope it stays that way.

The ghost touches are likely related to overheating. Have you not been using your heat the past few days?

Our weather has run from about 12 - 30s the past week and a half. My wife would kill me if I didn't use the heat.
Ghost touches in these radios are the first sign of the screen delaminating in my experience. I have a original screen on mine that began to have ghost touches but ceased after I added fans to the back of the radio and added better thermal material to the chips inside the radio.

It's possible that you are in a sweet spot of very cold temperatures keeping the radio cool enough to stop ghost touches. Using the feet and defrost or feet only option for heat may also help if you see the touches return.

Now is a good time to apply the cheap fixes if you want to stop the delamination without costly replacement parts.

I realize that it wasn't the cheapest route -- but I wanted wireless Apple Car Play / Android Auto as well as top of the line audio controls... this thing is an absolute gem and is my favorite upgrade to my truck! It made the stock system sound better if you can believe that!!

Was it difficult to hook up or did have it done. That's the size I'm looking at for my truck, the one I'm looking at the screen is detachable. That things looks great in your truck

… for my new head unit? Eazy peazy.

If you’re asking about controlling the trucks features / controls / settings… I believe he used a Maestro to get everything to continue to work as expected. I haven’t had any issues yet!

Looks great! Do the factory volume and tune knobs below the new head unit still function?
