getting ready to drop a 6.4 in my 2014 1500 and I’m wondering if there’s anyone out there that is adapting the vararam CAI to fit the 6.4.
bad idea to custom fab some tubing? I realize having turns in the piping would slow the air flow but would it still be better than what’s on the market

Use the 5.7 intake and everything will work flawlessly.

Feels like I would be downgrading performance with the 5.7 intake and airgrabber vs 6.4 plus aftermarket CAI/making the airgrabber work

i don’t have any numbers backing that, looking for ideas really for best set up

I found someone selling a factory 6.4 airbox and used that. Minus the snorkel and all my exhaust everything on my truck is factory parts engine wise. The stock 6.4 airbox is actually really good. Plenty of air. Also not sure how you would make the air grabber work as it will no longer have any support holding it up. The 6.4 cold air intakes work perfectly fine. S&B is one of the more popular for the 6.4 mani swap or a custom track intake setup if you can go that route. I off-road through wet areas so I couldn’t go that route. Hence the snorkel. There are people using the stock airbox and building a ram air scoop or a custom track setup that uses a bell mouth fitting behind the grill to force air. You could duct it into the factory airbox replacing the factory air duct into the fender very easily

Perfect, thanks for the input fellas, I like the idea of getting cooler air as it can get freaking hot here in Texas

I used to use aftermarket CAI's, and while the sound was good to listen to at WOT, the potential for contamination to get into the engine is greater.

I went to the 6.4 lower air box with the 6.4 air intake horn on my 5.7, and use the 6.4 MOPAR air filter too.

I removed that charcoal filter pack thingy on the lid of the air box, removed the plastic line from the top of the air box lid (using a rubber cap to plug it up properly) to the line attachment in front of the oil filler and installed a proper K&N breather filter.

I then installed a new Legmaker 4" CF tube with silicone elbow, and used the kits IAT extension to run the IAT to the new 6.4 air intake horn.

I can now hear my exhaust and engine very well, and I have a nice and proper Cold Air Intake in use that has actually made some improvement to my bottom end. All the while, now ensuring that I have proper filtration too.

It was the knowledgebase on this Forum that I went this route and did away with CAI's, and I don't regret it a bit. My HEMI is happier now.

When I did my swap I already had the Vararam and 5.7 intake. Buying the 6.4 manifold along with a new intake was going to be around $1,300. I opted to just have my 5.7 manifold ported for $300 to allow some more airflow and rolled with it. The HP per $ didn’t add up enough for me to personally worry about it.
