I've already done the Infinity replacement of the dash and rear door speakers and the difference is pretty incredible.

I was thinking that if I got that kind of improvement just by changing those speakers, would replacing the sub speaker make a similar improvement?

I built a 3/4 inch ring to raise my sub up in the factory box and replaced it with an alpine swr-8d2. I'm not running the factory amp now though.

All I'm thinking of doing is simply replacing the generic stock sub speaker with an Infinity or Kicker or something else. Not changing the box or adding an amp. Just the speaker itself.

Has anyone replaced their sub speaker and did it make a difference?

Plenty of people have replaced the stock sub with a Pioneer SW2002. And while it sounds cleaner, it reduces the thump since the stock amp just can't drive it. The stock enclosure is pretty shallow, so you'll need to use a shallow mount sub.

There are other shallow 8" dual voice coil subs on the market. Honestly, unless you are running an external amp they're all going to lack any punch.

Thanks. That's what I was looking for. Probably not worth swapping out then.

I've had both the alpine on my 2019 Classic, and now the HC on my 22 Laramie, the 2019 was plenty loud enough at the 25 level, the 2022 is almost too loud at the 20 level

"plenty loud" is very subjective. How loud should it be? The typical answer is N+1.

I've got the rear seat folded up and the flat floor folded out with a JL W7 13.5" subwoofer and a JL HD 1200 watt amp.

It's killer! :head3:

I'm sure. I just wanted to swap out the sub, not add an amp and bigger sub.

The other issue is, the sub has 3 voice coils (Alpine). you will not have enough power to run a different sub off the factory AMP.
