Good question. I’ll have to do some digging. Most around here haven’t had any good rebates or deals advertised dealership wise, and I won’t use the local CDJR as I’ve had repeated horrible experiences with them from my Jeep days. At one point I literally had to explain to them basic vehicle tire size programming. They wanted to charge me 150 dollars to “test” if they could even change it - on tires that THEY installed on the Jeep while under warranty... So I just bought a ProCal for the same price and fixed mine and like 4 friends speedos.

Oh and they offered 3 extra years of free oil changes with my jeep with GAP insurance and then proceeded to tell me to pound sand when I went to have it done.

Basically they’re skeevy, unintelligent, POS’s and I won’t give them my business again.

But I digress - will have to look around at other NE Florida dealerships. Likely in the 60’s though. Big trucks are popular for driving to the mall around here.

Wyoming and Colorado don't have the salt issue BUT they do use anti-skid and sand which blasts everything.
I would worry about how much offroading was done with it also - esp. from those 2 states
When i lived in Colorado in 2003 they started to use mag Chloride because of the black ice problem on I-25 going from North to South even at the Eisenhower tunnel in and out of Denver, it was so bad the spray form of it would corrode the Hi Tension insulters on the power line poles.

High mileage is a hard sell, i have driven many high milers with good luck but i was also mechanic and looked hard and long at certain things. You do want the 8 speed for sure and the 8.4 inch radio might be a better buy too just to have mechanical switches and dials for heater, fan, radio etc.

Here to ask the annoying questions.

Currently eyeballing a 2018 that’s well spec’ed with 105k miles for 35k, as well as a similarly optioned 2019 with 114k for 41.

The 18 is also in easy travel distance (1 hour flight and 6 hour drive back) but the 19 is in Michigan (I’m in Florida).

Both have CARFAX showing oil changes regularly around 10k miles. The 2019’s dealership put new brakes and did suspension work that they won’t disclose the specifics. I’ve asked multiple times.

Is the 8 speed (and other updates) worth spending more on?

Budget is 43500 out the door, and I’ve been stalking the market as prices drop for the last 5 months. Seems like the higher mileage stuff just sits. There’s one guy who wants like 45 for an 18 with 165k miles… kind of delusional pricing. Hah.

Thanks for the input.
Check out this dealer ! The have been many good comments about them the RAM forum

Never thought of that.

The market is wild though. There’s a local one for 48 with 75k, but they put what looks like wheels and tires from a tradesman on it and it’s low on the feature set. Gonna see if they’ll sell it for wholesale tomorrow but you know… probably not.

Good news, the 18 is apparently off the table now so the prices these people are putting out there are going to make this decision really easy.

I just can’t wrap my head around trucks sold in 2019 for less than 60k being listed for the base MSRP of 53 when they have 50-70k miles on them.

Which is why I’m looking at such high mileage vehicles to fit in the budget.

We're going into a recession & high interest rates.

If you can wait; do so, prices will be coming down.

There is absolutely no way in hell i would buy a used 6 speed power wagon. And thats mainly because i own one of each. The 6 speed is a real big pos imo.

As far as the salt belt thing goes, unless you are planning to keep it for 6 years or more i wouldnt worry about it. I live in northern michigan and have dealt with it for years. Up until 5/6/7 years goes by, with constant salt exposure, there shouldnt be much issues with major rust.

Mentioned a desire for this to be your truck, for the next decade.
State you want to stay around $40K or so.
This is not intended to offend you, in any way , shape or Form but are you planning on paying $4K cash. No Loan?

If it is a loan, then I would suggest you determine the loan amount and consider new.

Center console is a deal killer, due to your Height?
So, buy the truck that you want, which fits your budget and rip the darn thing out.
A lot of others have done it. For some reason, folks without the center console,
seem more than happy to trade, straight across, in order to get the center console.

A willingness to change out the center console, could very well, get you into a new truck.
Maybe not a POWER WAGON, per se, but a Ram, none the less. Equiped, as you desire,
and, the best part, brand spanking NEW, with no miles, at all.
Even buy a extended service contract, good for the next 7 years.
.
There are more than a few dealerships, one even mentioned in this thread,
that are Reputable and give an excellent price.

Again, sorry if I have intruded or offended.
Jusst spitballing potential options.

19 saw a “stronger frame “ as well the 8sp tows very well. 10k on oil changes sucks in my opinion. Look at engine idle hours. Dont want to get the Hemi tick

I started out looking for a used Ram diesel. They cost almost as much as a new one. Couldn't find any new ones either. I ended up buying a new basic truck from Dave Smith in Idaho. 2500 Big Horn diesel. It is like a space ship and I could not be happier. Sticker was around 68 k, but used ones were over 50 k.

It’s just me but I think I might rather look for a brand new 2500 perhaps with Big Horn trim but the other goodies to make the truck your own. Those prices on a truck you’ve never laid eyes or hands on that have zero warranty coverage are simply a non-starter. But, that is just my opinion.

I'm sorry but there is no way I would ever spend that type of money ey on a used vehicle especially with 100k miles.
You say your budget is 43,500. Is that cash or financing?

Regardless of the mileage driven, I would be wary of more than just the salt damage on the MI truck, although any vehicle from/near a costal area will experience similar corrosion problems (just via a different path). Add to that the fact that, even with "Carfax", there is no indication of how the vehicle was driven. Did the previous owner(s) pound the heck out of the vehicle while keeping the body and interior in good condition?

Such pounding includes many things drivers often do that few folks think about. For example, look at the right rear suspension and check for worn/damaged parts. Folks often cause this damage by turning (usually right-hand) from the shoulder of the roadway, at which time the right rear wheel and tire go "BANG!" upon impact with a hole or off the edge of the road surface. I have watched this numerous times from behind such idiotic drivers who do this. One day many years ago, while at a friend's tire/repair shop, he showed my a customer's vehicle on the lift with this sort of damage. The car was fairly new and looked very good "from the outside", but the underside told the story.

Make sure the 19 doesn't have a CP4 high pressure pump there having a lot of problems with that pump.

When they go out they take the fuel rail and other components with it gets rather expensive to repair. But on the flip side Ram was suppose to have a recall on that pump. I bought my ram 3500 with 100,000 miles on it and it was a 2013 and has 592,000 now.

The 2019 is a better truck traded my 2018 for 2019 ram. The 2019 dealer is hiding something all dealers have detailed doc. On how a vehicle was reconditioned. Demand a copy sent email. Ps 10000 mile oil changes are bare bones. Also the truck dash board menu can bring up towing and idling hours check that if go for test drive good luck.

I wouldn’t do it. I think you can do better. If you put 20 or 30 thousand miles more on it and your $40,000 investment will be worth next to nothing. IMO

I would definitely look at new versus used. You would hate it if you bought a $43,000 truck and then in a few months have to put an $8000 motor in it or a $7000 transmission. I bought a brand new rebel and put a seven year unlimited mile warranty on it Because I didn't need the higher tow rating. Mine has a rating of 11,500 pounds. Which limits me to about a 9000 pound trailer considering all the tools I carry with me.

I have 90,000 on mine and I love the transmission. The eight speed is far superior to anything else they've ever made. I'm super glad I bought the unlimited mileage warranty that covers me for the whole seven years that I pay for this vehicle. Unless you were a mechanic or you know one that owes you a big favor or two I would say look at this route versus buying a used one with that many miles on it.
