Is it possible to follow the process on resetting the oil life before the reminder message shows up? I can't remember when i changed the oil last and i want to do it this weekend.

You can reset it at any time, but why wouldn't you just do it when you change oil and filter?

IMO, that is playing a dangerous game, especially if you go beyond the recomnended oil change intervals.

If you're under and doing it to be near an even mileage number. then it's all good. Much easier when at nice, round numbers.

AGREE! Plus if you want you could even stop at a repair shop and ask for a few of the stickers they use. But them on the door or in the windshield or? and you have it covered.

You can but that meter is basically useless anyhow. Ever since I started driving I have kept a log book in every vehicle. All fill ups, oil changes ,repairs, new tires, brakes, transmission, coolant, differential flushes and anything else related to the vehicle get recorded chronologically in that book. This record has a great many uses, from gas mileage, to repair costs, to tax filing and at resale, buyers will pay a premium for vehicles that have a detailed maintenance and repair record.

Yes, you can reset it any time. From my understanding of the OP he wants to change the oil this weekend, even though the minder is not on yet, and thus reset it. Doesn't sound like he just randomly wants to reset the oil minder even though the oil hasn't been changed?
I've gone by the oil minder for years on multiple cars. I became a believer in the systems 20 years ago when I worked in the automotive testing field and saw first hand how they were setup. Manufacturers just don't arbitrarily pick intervals for these to pop up. Many are also set up to just not go by miles, but rather calculate many parameters to basically see how hard the engine is being run and adjusts the miles based on that.
My last truck I bought new in 2003 and put 150k on it before trading it in with no engine issues. Wife had an '09 minivan that had 130k on it when traded in. Have a '14 car with over 100k on it currently with no issues. All of these have had the engine oil changed based strictly on the oil minder. Sure, it doesn't hurt anything if you want to change oil more frequently and I really don't care if somebody does nor will say they are wrong or it's a bad idea. However if somebody asks my recommendation I will say go by the oil minder and it will be fine.
