That is correct. Nothing against him at all as he's always done good by me and very responsive. I've been without a tune for a month now and i'm itching to get some power back in my truck. Especially when I have my ARH LTs coming in Saturday.

Cause I know he's busy, getting over the Covid BS and has a hand that is pretty hurt. I still plan to run his 2.5 HL cam kit even. I'm just getting impatient and wanna show out with my now FBO truck that's looking like a beast!
I bet Flyin Ryan would get you hooked up super quick. Tune and cam both.

Weeerrrddsss….didn't read down far enough!
Yeah it's a laundry list and I have so much more I could put in there but I ran out of characters lol.

I'm pretty sure he isn't a big fan of me. We had a bit of a disagreement about something and went our separate ways. Not saying he isn't damn good at what he does or the parts he's cranking out, just not sure he'd take me on lol. Totally my own fault though.

You could try Mark Rojee, another one to look up is Dusterhoff Tuning or Rick Tapp.Jon Sipple and Jeremy Satera are supposedly a couple of the better 8 speed tuners ,but they don't come cheap. Scott Boegler is another decent tuner.Check out this page, you'll find a few of the better tuners hanging around it.

I'm actually talking to Sipple at the moment. I've been pestering them about building an 8HP70 for me and my stroker build I'll eventually have. I hear nothing but good things about that shop and they are pretty close to me.

I can tell ya, you 100% can swap a TCM from one trans to another with nothing more than a VIN write with Alfa and you're golden. Did it to mine after finding out the TCM had been previously tuned with a DiabloSport, which wasn't gonna work with HP Tuners. I have had ZERO issues and the transmission operates flawlessly.
My TCM has failed (lost communication), so I'm going to buy a used trans and swap out the TCM. Since my truck has lower miles than the trans I'm going to buy, I'm want to keep my stock valve body. Do I need to do anything other than the VIN write in alphaobd?

Nope. I legit just swapped em, set the VIN and was off to the races. Two months later and it still works like it was never swapped in the first place.

With AlfaOBD and then connecting to the gearbox and setting the VIN through there.

You'll still need to pull the valve body out to get the TCM fully removed from the trans, but it's really not that difficult. It took me longer to refill the trans than it did pulling down the valve body and getting the TCM

Which obd reader do you use?
I use the OBDLink MX+. I hear people going cheaper and they are always having issues with connecting or having changes save. I never hear of people having issues with the MX+

Wait... ya lost me. I still need to swap in my original tcm and program it? I've had mine out twice now doing the zip kit, not bad at all but There's always that sense of nervousness when dealing with valve body bolts.

I might be backwards on how this is going. If the TCM is being transplanted into the trans already in the truck, you 100% need to program the VIN. If the TCM already programed to your truck is just going in the body of another transmission? Then you 100% don't need to reprogram it. Should be plug and play.

That's impression I was under. Original tcm doesn't know if the mechanical parts have been changed just as long as it knows the ecm. If I leave the tcm in my new unit and programming it is as easy as using the alfa app I'll just do that.

Exactly. It's a time saver to drink a few cold ones in triumph!

I've been having lunch with mine. Frosty adult beverages will be for when I get it in. Definitely gonna buy the app and cross my fingers
You can't go wrong with AlfaOBD and the OBDLink MX+ combo. Hands down the most versatile tool to keep in your tool kit for these Rams. Really any FCA/Mopar/Chrysler/Stallantis vehicle. I'll have a few cold ones in your honor and wish you the easiest of installs. Look forward to seeing how it goes so keep us posted!

Excellent! Thank you!

For clarification, in Alpha, you went into (Ram 1500 > Transmission > Chrysler ZF8HP45> car with open hood icon > VIN Write) to do the VIN write?

It's crazy that these Mopar parts are extremely hard to get. The reman valve bodies are all on back order across the country. The new valve bodies are in short supply, and cost 2k+. I can't justify spending over 2k, just for a TCM. Especially since my valve body is fine.

I found a used trans for $450, and it comes with a 6 month warranty.
