That was the speed limit. Most of the highways on the Palouse are 75.
Fair enough. Glad you and your buds are ok, btw.
It's mainly the volunteers around here that think flashing lights on their vehicle means they can far exceed the speed limit and make dangerous maneuvers. Bad apples I suppose.
Had one the other day, clearly not an official vehicle, with flashing red/blue lights dodging and weaving traffic until he stopped at a busy red light. Was surprised to see he didn't slow down and go thru it.

Oh yeah no I’ve known a few of said bad apples. My county’s dept and a few other local ones are pretty good at sacking repeat offenders. State law allows us to run up to fifteen over in response depending on severity but as an unspoken dept policy we try to avoid that as much as possible. One less thing to go wrong on the list.

Obviously depends on what the Ins comes back at. Let's say you get $16k. What are your current thoughts on what your 'next pickup' might look like?

Going to stay with Ram? Another make? QC, CC, RC?

Have you looked around? What are you seeing in your area?

....sooooo... you've had plenty of time to think about next steps. What are your current thoughts on what your 'next' pickup might look like? Going to stay with Ram? Another make? QC, CC, RC?
Yeah I’m going to get another ram. And probably try and fix mine to use as a purely forestry rig since damage is just the whole right side of the it. Looking at a 2500 crew cab or 3500 crew cab SRW. Something I can pull a fifth wheel with at the ranch or moving equipment to other sites on the forest.

Glad you weren't seriously hurt, and those that are are on the mend. Good luck in your search for a new truck.

this is why i sort of do not agree with personal veh being allowed to used lights and siren.. It makes it very confusing for a person when they are used to seeing a emergency veh in its colors..

Glad everyone made it out of the accident..
We were only allowed red lights NO sirens, again this was like 30 yrs ago, NOW they cant even run red lights in a personal car.

Yeah I know across the state line at least in Whitman county Washington they can’t run anything on a person vehicle. But here we can

where i live, the Fire Dept. does not speed, unless police are in front of them.
certain people from foreign desert countries, only slow at stop signs, they chase each other down city streets, they park their BMWs & Mercedes in Red Zones, & other things, but i guess that is how you are raised in a war torn country.

Everyone else be aware :(

We were going the speed limit. Most of the highways on the Palouse are 75 with a few having 80mg limits. It’s a nice change living in rural PNW vs growing up in San Diego. Still have to deal with the wannabe street racers though around the towns.

It's frustrating for sure that so many people think that whatever they are doing is more important than what someone else (especially emergency vehicles) are doing. Sad thing is, I think lots of young people have come to believe that their needs are more important than anyone elses.
Its not young people. I see this behavior from all genders and age groups.

how far over the speed limit was your "75-80mph cruising" ?
I find that question a bit crude, two people are in hospitals, because some ****** pulls out in front of fire truck, would not have matter what speed
Here poeple are to slow down to 60KM when passing emergency vehicles, or highway workers
Most don’t 2 or3 yrs ago a young girl flag person was killed because a driver was too damn important to bother stopping
They did toss the worthless piece is **** in jail, but not long enough
A towe truck driver was killed helping a women in a storm
5 yrs ago I was slammed at highway speeds by a driver while he played with his phone while I was stopped in a construction zone
I have never seen emergency units drive bad
Maybe if you where in a wreck you would be wondering why they don’t hurry up???

I think the issue some people have with this situation is I was responding in my personal truck as well since there wasn’t room in the engine. The brush engine was a ram 4500 that had been built for the department, and my personal truck was a red 1500 trx4 that had a few radio antennas off the headache rack, as well as red and white strobes in the front grill and front and rear window and tailgate. I had it set up that way because when I’m not serving as a volunteer I’m working in fire and forestry for the US forest service. If it hadn’t been my personal truck and had been a department vehicle I have a feeling some people still could find fault but I’m at the point where I really just don’t care anymore. Just want it all to be over and be a learning experience.

So I’m not comfortable sharing photos as of yet, but I was involved in a sort of serious crash. My 2010 1500 trx4 is set up as my personal response vehicle for working with the county rural fire department. I’ve posted photos before that people can find if interested. I was responding to a tractor trailer roll over between where I live and the main town in the county, cruising at 75-80 mph with my emergency lights on and occasional siren sounded before each main crossing of the highway. A RV pulled out infront of me and the Type six fire engine right behind me. They had someone stopped infront to them who could see and hear us coming but the rv decided to go arround them and try and get across infront of us. I hit the brakes and ended up on my side in the ditch pretty hard, and the engine flipped a few hundred feet past me half on the road. I got away mostly fine considering what happened. The type six engine was totaled with one of our guys having to be life flighted to Seattle’s level one trauma center and another going to Boise’s trauma center.

Wait, you mean you thought it was cool to both speed and put lights and sirens on a personal vehicle. What were you thinking? You should know that's not ok. As far as the actual fire truck I totally feel for that situation! Especially the injured responders! Your truck itself, however, not so much. I'm happy you weren't injured, but honestly you should be ticketed for both driving and setting your personal truck up to represent an emergency vehicle.

Ok, again we were not speeding. Speed limit on that stretch of highway is 75. And this is a pretty standard occurrence for rural departments to allow members to set up personal vehicles this way. Any legitimate questions?

Not on the roads I've seen. Especially in the winter months. Not that the rv has any excuses either way. They made a very stupid move! I do understand both the adrenaline and tunnel effect of first responders responding and some of the idiots driving rv"s too.
