Do you have a napa near you? I have a napa nearby that stocks schaeffers.
Not in my humble little town but the next fairly big town that’s about a half hour south of me has a NAPA but I already called them and they can’t even order it. There’s another NAPA once you cross down in the Texas in another town that we go shopping in quite a bit, I just haven’t called them yet to see if they can even order any.

We’re driving up to Oklahoma City this Saturday so the stepson can raid parts off of a Chevy S10 blazer at a junk yard and the one and only NAPA store up there that carries Schaeffers only carries it in the diesel oil.

Sounds like taking advantage of my Amazon account’s gonna be the only way to get this stuff in a reasonably priced way.

Did you ask them for shelf life?
No, I didn’t even think to ask him about that but besides that, the guy I talked to was sounding a little bit tight lipped and even sounded like he didn’t even want to tell me what he did about what group that oil is.

Oh well I guess, when I first started out using Pennzoil ultra premium, I bought enough oil for three oil changes and that stuff didn’t seem to be affected when I used the last 5 quart jug and 2 quart bottles on the third oil change.

Yes thats fine. A 3/4 mix is a nice compromise IMO. Their additive pack is very very good to
Yeah, the guy did say something that sounded like he said they went a little heavy on the PAO. The guy was kind of hard to understand because it sounded like he was talking to me on a speakerphone.

Sometimes it's better to ask consumer questions so they don't get the yips knowing they got a techie on the line. Shelf life is an innocuous question, but equally likely the phone answerer has not a clue.

Yeah schaeffers told me before the 9000 series "is pao based". I can believe that considering even their 7000 synthetic blend tells you straight up in the PDS they use PAO in their synthetic blend. Id imagine the 9000 is mostly PAO

Sounds like it. My closest napa is 2 hours away but we go frequently enough i buy it from them. They got a nice big sign in the window that says "schaeffers products sold here"

Yeah, come to think of it, he didn’t want to tell me what that mixture of group 3 and group 4 was but I think I do remember him saying it was primarily PAO based.

I emailed back after they said primarily PAO and asked if they use POE and they did not respond
This is good enough for me. Sounds like Schaeffers might not be quite as good as red line but sounds like it’s far better than mobil 1, Valvoline, Pennzoil, and all them other widely-sold brands you can practically get anywhere and even sounds like it’s a little bit better than even Amsoil signature series. Well, maybe not but I do know that according to my used oil analysis, that Schaeffers 9000 had almost double the moly in it.

Blackstones method for testing TBN is a newer test that apparantly shows a lower v i r g i n Tbn. I guess this method produces a better result with used oil but not with fresh oil so id bet its higher than 7. Mobils PDS for FS 0w40 shows 12.6 but blackstones last VOA of that oil showed 10.3 or something. Delvac extreme PDS i think shows 10 tbn but blackstone says 8 or so
When I did my UOA with Blackstone was not at all happy to see they wanted an extra $10 just for TBN  an was not happy to find out after the test with how they test for fuel in the oil, so when I had oil changed last week in the wife's Toyota I had them get me a sample an used one of my Cummins kits #2543 that is then sent to Oil Monitors lab, Cummins test kit includes TBN at not extra cost, the kit cost are $26.0 each but shipping for 3 of them was killer at just under $12, oh the cost to mail it back was only $5.65 so this is still much cheaper then Blackstone at $45.00 with TBN, the $9 savings helps pay for a qt of oil ;)

Below is a link to a PDF showing all what they test for incase others may want to try them out, I wanted to attach the PDF but its to big for RF: https://www.cumminsfiltration.com/sites/default/files/LT36269.pdf

Hey, where's the %soot loading?

We had that on Mobil's Lab.

I will point members to the verbiage defining TBN = reserve alkalinity, not total additives remaining as Blackstone says.

If your talking to me soot is listed in section B :) when I get the report on wife's oil I'll post a copy of it in the Blackstone section that way others can see how well or not that 0w20 Mobile oil held up after 9174 miles in her Toyota 4 cly engine...

Dealership did not list which Mobil One was used ( I looked at paperwork its listed as GTMO 0w20 BK SN W, my best guess is Mobil 1 Advanced ) I was surprised to find out they were not using Toyota 0W16 as listed in owners manual but they do say 0w20 is ok if 0w16 is not available, but you would think the dealer would have plenty of 0w16 on hand for warranty requirements & the first 2 years of free oil changes offered by Toyota...
