on amazon all hp oils right at 200 bucks per 12, except their racing oil at 350+ for 12. Their 5 gal pale like 200 bucks more the redline on some options, similar price on others. Lets start painting a proper picture what is going on.

It seams like a lot of big companies are in line with increases, but the secondary person in the chain is just exploding their markups due to this uncertainty. I only blame the reason this happened, not how people are responding. The fault lies when a gov't spends so much it devalues money, they are the only ones to blame. Not trying to make this political, just explain why synthetic oil is up everywhere. Man if I didnt have hemi tick I swear that kirkland costco synthetic is how I would roll. It is all I am gonna buy for the wife's SUV. I believe with this last case I bought, I have near 10 years worth redline for the ram. So good luck for the rest of you navigating this crap. Don't worry we all are in the same boat for everything else, I'm just set on oil unless someone steals it, lol. I'm gonna start dating my oil change waste bottles in case I ever have to reuse them, lol. date and miles

I suppose today's comparison might be buggy harness oil, just that back in the day the vertical integrated oil companies claimed superior lubricants over "local blenders", they used to call them.

There was some truth there - a notorious Wisconsin cheapo blender put out some real trash that oxidized and varnished up a paper machine in my territory, I was told to go in and rescue over a long 4th of July shutdown. And no, the blender wasn't Amsoil (Superior, Wisconsin).

Fast forward to modern world and we do have some known good quality blenders.
As long as we keep in mind their base synthetic oil supplier matters - a lot.

From what i read from a guy on BITOG who is part of a huge oil distribution company that deals with p66 and kendall and redline, p66 is very hands off with redline and lets them operate as they want. The only thing they did was add the professional series lineup

They must be Japanese.

Warren, and it is dexos which is really the more important thing? moly 80, boron 240+, good stuff.
How well do you think compared to say PUP and lubegard if you did Kirtland and lubegard? Wonder if someone has tried that to cure tick here on the forum?

GtL is a clean base and allows for good contamination retention, there is zero doubt this is proven with the uoa's. But, is it that much better then kirkland that is 15 bucks for 5 quart dexos oil? Right now amazon pup 5w30 5 qrt is over 50 bucks, like wtfark. I personally don't believe so since that is the oil I am replacing in the wife's car. If travis's idea about boron has some bite, it wouldn't shock me if kirkland 5w30 and lg is a tick killer. However, in my truck I wont be doing anything different, my truck knocks on 10w30 redline and with other filtration, so this sensitive pig is gonna get 5w30 redline plus my 20-820 until it dies or until it no longer kills my tick.

50 bucks versus 15 bucks, I am seriously impressed with kirkland pricing and quality. This is the kind of thing I want to support in this crazy world.

How about posting up some SS pricing with that proffered discount? No offense but everything else is talk, lol.

Thanks in advance.

Do we all agree it is SS that is top tier boutique and not their other stuff?

Amsoil SS 5w30-
0w30 SS
Amsoil SS Sever gear in 140 and 90 weight.
Amsoil SS multi transmission oil.
Amsoil PI

and whatever else you think is relevant.

We never discuss the good aspects about amsoils marketing, they control the price, good at times like this. Redline is getting smoked by retailers, not their doing, retailers are changing their %'s, you see the recomended pricing and amazon pricing, it isnt up that much 15%.
Here is the 0w40. Just a quick look up. I will do the gear oil also just for reference

So can you post what worked and kept truck smooth and what didnt. Man there is no way to keep all this knowledge, I can barely remember corey's and his was our test truck number 1.
So I guess I can give a brief summary.

1st Truck - Grey one.
Pre tick: Mopar 5w20 and occasionally Mopar 5W30.
Once I had the tick, replaced the lifters on the left bank and used the best ones for the right. That was the only way we could keep the cost of that job down.
After which based on @Burla recommendation, we used Redline 5w30. I ran that oil continuously and the engine was smooth and whisper quiet.
Post Tick:
1st change: Redline Oil 5W30 - engine remained quiet and smooth.
2nd change: Total Quartz 9000 5W30. The engine oil sounded smooth and good, but certainly not as quiet as Redline.
3rd change: Motul 300V 5W40. Another recommendation from @Burla. The engine sounded smooth and great, better than Total, but a little cammy than Redline. If that makes sense. The oil was more expensive than Redline as well.
It was then that I had the crash and totaled the truck.

2nd Truck - Black one.
Pre Tick:
The truck was already having a very slight almost indiscernible tick at start up when I bought it. The mechanic heard it. Once I bought the truck, we replaced all the fluids. Redline oil and Mopar gearbox, transfer and diff oils.
1st Oil change: Redline 5W30
2nd Oil change: Redline 5W30
3rd oil change: Redline 5W30 - it was at this point that we noticed a tick coming on.
4th oil change: AMSoil SS 5W30 - This was when the tick was loud and decided to do the rebuild, change the lifters.
Rebuild: It was then that at the mechanic discovered by my tick was two fold. Two of the bolts on the left manifold had sheered and the lifters on the left bank were looking pretty bad.
So we changed them in the same way. We changed the left bank lifters and then used the best of the old ones for the right.
Post Rebuild: We decided to use Castrol Magnatec 5W30. I was intrigued by the oil and wanted to test it out. Besides with some people using Castrol Edge 0W40 on their HEMI engines without any additives and having good results. Plus the cost of the oil was less than Redline and more readily available in the market. However the tick came back. This isn't a knock on Castrol. I'm guessing that there lifters on the right, even though the best ones, were damaged as well and therefore needed more Esters and moly, but sadly I didn't give it that.
1st oil change: HPL 15W40, based on recommendations to go thicker and use something with a good amount of moly. I later realized that the moly in this oil was only comparable to that of Castrol Edge. The tick became louder. Decided to replace the lifters on the right bank as well for new ones.
Post 2nd lifter change/ Rebuild: The mechanic said that the right side lifters, it wasn't just the rollers that failed. The lifters internally, were buggered. So they needed to be changed. No oil change would have helped that. Not even Redline.
Currently: Redline 5W30 - the engine is smooth and whisper quiet. I like it this way.

Same here. Not changing a thing. My old Ram has 160K miles on it, and the engine runs quiet and strong. My Ram is not a daily driver and gets stored during these Michigan Winters to preserve the solid body. Looking at my records, it was 3/29/2022 when I changed the oil which is done annually. This amounted to about 1500 miles driven this past year. So 5w30 Redline with a RP 20-820 filter once a year it is. Probably dumping good oil at 1500 miles, but a once a year OCI I can handle, even at these crazy Redline prices. The previous owner of this Ram used Redline 5w20, then 5w30 in it, which probably has something to do with it's longevity.

I believe that it was around 5000 kms into it. I now know that the tick was the header bolt.
I tried to do an oil change and Redline wasn't available, so I went with AMSoil. I think AMSoil aggravated the lifters and the second tick came in.

Ouch man, thanks for clarifying. I actually wonder because 5w30 redline is so effective at killing tick that those few it doesnt kill the tick on is something else like the bolts, lol. And you changed the lifters w/o a obd2 code? No doubt the journey you had with the wrecked truck made you sensitive to this ****, especially since it happened to your second truck. Well, hopefully you can find some relief and enjoy the truck long term.

Thanks @Burla . The original goal is still the same. I'm planning to take this truck to 1 million miles.
I changed the lifters because of the noise and I didn't want to leave it so that it would make anything worse.

This is good ... keep using Red Line 5w/30 and an Royal Purple 20-820 and be done with it, lol.
