Ouch man, thanks for clarifying. I actually wonder because 5w30 redline is so effective at killing tick that those few it doesnt kill the tick on is something else like the bolts, lol. And you changed the lifters w/o a obd2 code? No doubt the journey you had with the wrecked truck made you sensitive to this ****, especially since it happened to your second truck. Well, hopefully you can find some relief and enjoy the truck long term.
How many miles on your truck now ?

And now for something completely different (John Cleese):

Mucking about for synthetic motorcycle oil, been using Red Line V-Twin 20W-50 for air cooled Harley, but holy moley - price is up to $20-$22 a QUART!

What's in the stuff now, 18 year old Glenlivet?

Thinking about alternatives just as we are for Hemi oils, sans eBay deal alerts by questionable characters.

Mobil 1 V-Twin 20W-50 still "only" $11 a quart at Wally World. Mobil even mentions something about triple protection blend, kinda sounds like throwback to the excellent tri-syn base oil blend they surrendered circa Exxon takeover period.

@Travis8352 you know anything? I know you drive lumber wagons not Harley's in da Yoop, thought you might have heard some any stock rumblings from ExxonMobil?

Wow their even using the triple action labeling for m1 v-twin!!?! As far as i can tell these new formulas are pretty darn good but i dont know anything about their v-twin oil. All the harley guys i know up here use it but they also havnt a single clue what the hells in oil other than zinc so i cant say their the best. I know HPlubricants makes a v-twin oil to but again i know nothing about it same as amsoils.

Just for fun to irritate corporate hacks:

"Brian,

Thanks for writing to us. I'm afraid base oils are considered trade secrets and are not something I'm permitted to disclose.

If I can help with any other motor oil questions, please respond to this email or call me at 1-800-ASK-MOBIL (800-275-6624).

Thank you for choosing Mobil,

Hey all, I'm fairly new to the Hemi world and had some oil questions. Pretty much I am going to be using whatever is proven to preserve my engine. And after doing a quick skim of 4,739 pages on what oils should be ran, I'm going with Redline 5w30 with the Royal Purple 20820 filter.

This seems to be a popular set up, am I correct with that? Are there any other things I should know?

I'd just go with 5w30. I mean, after all, back when the 5.7 Hemi was in the 3/4 tons and 1 tons in the 3rd generation trucks and before the 6.4 Hemi replaced the 5.7, that was the oil they used. They only recommend that 5w20 stuff for the 1500's because of what the perceived use was in a half-ton and because of that, they were only interested in higher fuel mileage numbers rather than what the engine actually needed.

Take it from someone who thought that Redline 10W30 and 10W40 was a good idea. It isn't. You are better off with 5W30 and 5W40. Stick to those and you will be fine. If you don't believe me, just look at the specs of 5W30 vs 10w30 on the website. You'll see what I mean.
Thank God for @Burla - who showed me the error in my thinking. I'm new to this whole oil, oil analysis thing and frankly there is still so much that I don't understand. But I know this... if you want to use an oil proven and guaranteed to preserve your engine, just run Redline 5W30 continuously. That is what I'm going to do.

Yeah I realized my mistake haha. Hopefully I don't cause a riot in here because of it. But I meant 5w30, not 10w30. Thanks for the input!

Hell yeah, Brother! My HEMI is so much happier now! I've got 4,000Km's in on my 5W30 RL HP oil and RP 20-820 oil filter upgrade and the improvements are appreciable!

This coupled with a good dose of RL SI-1 Fuel System cleaner and the usual 91 octane fuel I use ;)

Thanks Ram Forum Brain-Trust Members for your wealth of knowledge; you know who you are ;)

I think I've asked this before but forgotten the answer! What is the difference between the black text 15304 and the white text 15304? See attached:

There is a 15% off on the 1 quart bottles at the moment with the white labels, up to $300 discount. They are cheaper than the 4 quart bottles even without the discount:

I would email dave from redline and ask the question, in theory there should be no difference. Maybe production date, maybe something nefarious, dunno best to ask them directly. Mine are black label.
