Just picked up my 2023 1500 Laramie with the 5.7 hemi. Very happy with it so far. I traded in my 2012 Ford F-250 diesel super duty which I loved, but it was getting a bit rough. I have done a lot of serious trailering in the past, but these days I'm mostly towing a very small boat and some Scout trailers.

My truck did not come with a hitch, so I'm looking at my alternatives for a class IV. I have found Mopar 82215222AD which seems to be well designed. I think there are Curt and Draw-tite alternatives. I'd order the Mopar already, but all the online parts places want $100-200 shipping for the $300 part. My dealer is not in a convenient location for me.

So I guess I'm looking for confirmation that the Mopar hitch is a quality unit, and also if there are any recommendations where you can order this $300 part with a reasonable shipping fee.

Thanks in advance, and I'm happy to be here on the RAM forums!

I'm also reading the threads about installing the OEM brake controller, but wondering if my dealer is going to give me a hassle about programming it.

Welcome to the forum and your new truck.

The dealer won't hassle you, he will probably charge you. Or, being a new truck he may not. My dealer charged me $60.00 back in 2016. I've read that AlfaOBD can program it. I didn't have Alfa when I installed mine so I cannot vouch for that statement. A search may be able to verify if you are interested.

Regarding the hitch. All manufacturers have to meet minimum specs to achieve their classification. I wouldn't worry about which is best, it's more about what one do you like and/or the cost. Curt has an excellent reputation and usually the best price.

Can't go wrong with the Mopar. I put one on my old 2013 1500 and towed 70,000 miles with it. Never a problem.

One thing to note about the factory brake controller. If you buy one make sure it's for your model year. They are specific. Probably a good idea to call your dealer to get the part number.

I think you would have to have the computer flashed too. I know I did when I added a hitch kit to my Durango.

After installing the Mopar hitch, I find myself with the stock hitch bar. Is there any market for this? Or is it headed out to the steel recycler?IMG_5473.JPG

That’s a fine crash replacement part that is certainly worth something to those in need . I would post it some where lt lists for over $150.00, so it has some value.

That image is for what i would consider a low cost Class 3 hitch receiver
I don't think you will find it in the MOPAR Catalog
It is likely something a dealership would install on the cheap

That hitch uses your bumper & ball
It is a true bumper hitch

Most reliable hitches, don't connect to the bumper at all, stock bumpers are too light duty

another even less sturdy Class 3 bumper hitch

I am truly surprised
If it has a 600 pound weight rating, i would be wary of towing with it

It is the official Mopar stock hitch attached to the truck at the factory...
