I locked myself out of my 2019 RAM. First time ever, 14 years, 3rd RAM. I unlocked the doors with the driver door hand sensor, opened the back door only, and threw my jacket (with key fob in pocket) on the back seat. I closed the door without opening the driver door and all doors re-locked with keys inside.
Anyone know how to disable this re-lock nightmare ?

Because of locking my self out of my truck way back in 1988, I always have an spare key made for the door lock of every vehicle I have owned since then, I keep it in my pocket at all times or you can always put it in a hidden place on the truck some where... Good luck..

Were you able to get back into it? I'm assuming by your question, you were since you didn't ask how to get in. BTW, that's scary easy.

You can disable that feature with AlfaOBD:
CBC Features: PE Auto-Relock Feature Enabled- NO

I keep a spare valet key with no FOB, Lowes will make them for $3.00 a piece, in a magnetic box on all vehicles. Far and away the easiest solution. Despite all the supposed safe guards, there are still lots of ways to get locked out of a modern vehicle. Anything I own that goes out of town far, also has a spare FOB with Battery removed, hidden in the truck. That way if you lose your FOB you aren't SOL.

I've carried a spare key in a magnetic box on top of my side frame rail for the last 35 years in 3 different trucks. Only needed to use them a couple times, but nice to know it's there if necessary. I check to make sure it's still there every once in a while, clean the dirt and road grime off the rail and the magnet, then stick it back in place.

The only problem would be, with these new trucks, if I lost the original key and fob I could get into the truck but I can't start the engine. This is why I don't like the push-button stuff. I prefer an actual keyed ignition.

That is why you keep a spare fob, with the battery removed, inside the pickup. If you leave the battery in the fob it doesn't allow the vehicle to go to sleep properly and will flatten the battery over a couple of weeks. It also means anyone that breaks in can start the vehicle without even finding the fob.

So now I'm supposed to carry an extra battery around in my pocket, to put in the fob that I leave in the glove box, in case I lose the key and the fob, and can only use my spare key to get into the truck? Do you see how convoluted this has become? Just give me a keyed ignition and that PITA issue will all go away.

It really isn't that complicated, you just don't like the answer. Leave the battery with the fob, just not in it. As far as give you a key, that isn't an option so what the hell can i tell you.

I think that's a great idea.

Why not just install the battery in the FOB and add a piece of waxpaper to insulate it from connecting?

I got a spare key cut then cut ears off and taped into the wiring and within days you cannot tell where it is and it cannot bounce off and get lost

I prefer to carry a spare door key in my pants pocket along with the other keys I have on me. Also a FOB with battery disconnected & well hidden sounds like a very good idea....

I carry an extra cut key on a ring also with the key for my back cover. I go no where w/o that extra 2 keys in my pocket. Just saves a major conflagration.

That's like saying, "I left the extra key in the glove box, just not in the ignition."

You're right, it really isn't that compicated. Just give me a keyed ignition and that PITA issue will go away. Keyed ignition, keyed tailgate lock, problem solved.

Either keyfob style does not need the battery installed to start the truck. With the pushbutton ignition you use the keyfob to push the button to start the vehicle. This feature is to allow starting the vehicle in case the battery dies in the fob the owner isn't stranded.

that person has to pay a monthly fee for that service

say your better half misplaced their FOB
with this service, your other half can call you,
you can press in a code & sometime within an 30 minutes
the code goes through the system & the truck starts & the door unlocks

I have never heard what happens, when your better half gets where they are going & they still have not located the lost FOB

I guess everyone should just carry an APPLE TAG, so they can't lose their FOB
