Hi all,

I've had two recent issues with roof leaks, apparently coming from the sunroof on my 2019 2500 Hemi. It started a few months ago. First couple of times, it leaked front driver's side and came out the grab handle and through the heat vent, all down inside the left side and onto the floor. There was a clear water stain on the ceiling and left front roof. My mechanic checked and flushed the drainage tubes, and water checked it---it checked dry. It was fine for a bit, then returned once, and I haven't had an issue with it since.

Last night, we had another torrential rainstorm, and I just noticed when putting the back seats down that driver's side rear seat was wet on the top, and also below the seat in the little well (I was about to put the headrest in there). It's not soaking wet, but definitely wet. I looked up, and low and behold, water stains on both sides of the roof fabric (pics attached.) I'm at a loss. My next step is to take to one of the dealers (my mechanic is really excellent, but this truck only has 20k miles on it, and if this is covered under warranty, that would be nice. I triple checked, and nothing was left open---no chance of rain getting in through an open window or sunroof ajar. What are your thoughts? What should I do?

Thanks!

Kris

It's likely to be the third brake light. I used windshield sealer on mine. It won't leak again. If your sunroof drains are good then it's likely coming from can lights or gps antenna.

It's odd that this would start leaking after two years, though, isn't it? There wasn't any sign of leaking in the back when the driver's side area was leaking, so I'm confused. Do you think there are two separate issues?

Thanks, everyone. Sounds like these are known issues and an easy fix. I’m handy for most things, including my horse trailer, but this is the first (and only) new car I’ve had since 1996, and I’m not about screw it up. Will even a mediocre dealership be able to handle these fixes without creating more problems? The truck only has 20k miles on it—will this be covered by warranty? Will it take longer than a day to get my truck back? It sounds like a simple fix for you all.

You will not do more damage then a shltty dealership, if you find a good one go for it ,but use caution as there are lots of sub-par below average not good at all dealers out here.

I just got my truck back from having a leak like this fixed. It took six weeks and two trips to the dealer before it was done. When I got it back at the end the leak was fixed, but they tore up some stuff on my truck, left it muddy on the inside, the new glass had grease smudges all over it, and there was mold growing on my carpet. They are ordering new parts to fix the stuff they tore up, but I cleaned my own carpet rather than put my truck back into a slow system that churns out shoddy work and sometimes creates as many problems as it fixes.

In todays economy, stuff that should take a day, now takes weeks. The quality of workmanship will vary, some people have good dealerships and others do not. In my area, the dealers are not good.

Mine was covered under warranty.

Sounds like it’s either gonna be me begging my own mechanic to bleed me dry and do the work, or having a go myself. I did notice today that the rubber sealer on both sides appears to be easily lifted up at the back corners, with barely a whisper of what looks like rubber cement beneath it, stretching in a strand. Not exactly worthy of torrential rain.

UPDATE: I had a chance today to take a look at the 3rd brake light. Lo and behold, the righthand screw was VERY loose, and I could actually pull the brake light away from the truck at this point. I had already gotten some Seal and Peel sealant (so that I could peel it out/off if I made a mistake), so I loosened the light on both sides, laid down a ribbon of sealant along the inner edge, and put it all back together. It's supposed to start raining again soon; hopefully, this was the fix. Thanks so much for all of your help! **OH---and there was NO SEALANT at all. Just the brake light screwed to the truck, with one screw almost completely unscrewed. I can't wait to find out what other areas never got sealed, but right now, there are NO leaks in the cabin, and my next focus is how to get the water marks off the fabric of the interior roof area. Thanks again!
