Does anyone pay the $150 for the navigation system updates? I have not but, wanted to get other opinions. In all honesty, these updates should be free.

If you have the Nav system, you should be able to use Android Auto / Carplay right? Google Maps / Apple Maps / Waze are free and are more up to date than any factory system update can ever hope to be.

I agree 100% and use Waze vs the Ram navigation. This was more of a general question about the cost as well as need for this update.

The update (AFAIK) does nothing except update the maps. The OS updates are delivered OTA and are free and not tied to the paid map update.

The cost is ridiculous, and should be free, as you mentioned. At best, it will be more accurate for a short period of time if you buy the update. More likely, it will already be out of date by the time you buy it. My wife insists on updating the Nav data in her vehicles. I tell her it's just flushing money down the toilet since she has a modern smart phone.

I've never used the Nav system on my 18 2500 or my 22 2500. They are constantly putting new roads in around here. Rapidly growing area. So the maps are out of date almost instantly.

The cure is; never get updates. The NAV system is a total POS and waste of money.

I'm annoyed that I didn't buy the cheaper truck without NAV. Try Google Map or Waze to see if it meets your needs. Sorry, there's no magic solution.

If the paid Uconnect upgrade trashed your NAV, see if there's a Uconnect customer service to call.

I'll look next time I'm at my pc.

NAV in truck is certainly not as good as cell with Google Maps, Waze, etc. But I do find myself in areas where cell signal isn't available and then the only option is have maps that work in NAV system of the vehicle I drive, or pull out the old school Garmin. To me it's all about where you frequent that drives this choice.

You can download Google Maps for areas with little/no coverage...

Yes, but only works as a stand alone map on your device. No turn by turn or traffic warning. My Garmin has traffic and lifetime (am sure not my lifetime) maps. And always works where I go.

Uconnect update and maps update aren't the same thing.

When you use the Navigation that comes with the Ram
it was made by an outside vendor, the disc label reads Navigation.com,
which is a sub company of Nokia, ( yes the film company )

Under Navigation.com, there is another sub company

I recall reading that there is a site, i think from Europe,
From that site, you can d/l USA/ Canada Nav maps for little or nothing.

The wife's uConnect 5 system in her 21 Pacifica flashes up a Tom-Tom nav logo when it starts up.
