Speaking of Fram filters. So I just did an oil and filter change. As many of you know I stocked up quite a bit of the RP 20-820. So I am tightening it just like I always have(have used 3 of the rp 20-820 filters previously) and noticed that a bunch of paint came off the filter. I was just hand tightening like I always do and this has never happened before with the same previous ones. Did they cheap out on these newer batches? Or did they decide to use a new formula of paint from a local mexican tree? lol. Has me kind of concerned I ended up switching it out to my other stock of XG2 filter. oil PSI has always been mirrored between the two filters I have noticed.
thanks for the report, bad news for sure, but as long as there is no rust inside you should be good. Can you cut it open? This happens for many reasons, most likely the metal wasnt prepped properly, but it would be possible to have bad paint as well, or newer regs that force low voc paint, who knows?

It does suggest if you are gonna use it for transmission canister, you better knock off the paint, this can cause a failure.

Yeah was my concern if the paint came off that easy then what else could be different or have issue if any? I did a good look inside and didnt see any rust. Took me about a minute with both in hand to decide to not chance it and go with the XG2. Yeah ill see about cutting it open. Hopefully my rose cutter shears can do the trick?

Well the metal wasnt rusted at all, once in oil it wont either unless tbn depletes. But very poor form for royal purple, they should know about this find out what happened.

that would be sweet for knocking the paint off though, lol.

I could return my paint stripper! Unfortunately, I got quality paint for my WIX trans filter.

Got too much kid crap in the barn to work on the tranny for a while.

Looks like we have a new synthetic media option from fram instead of the blend media ultra. And its rated for 25k miles but no info on frams site yet

If what fram says about ultra was true, why endurance? Good news for sure with early thoughts on this, but if indeed fram ultra was spun glass with a great new backing, why would endurance be an upgrade? So wireback is now better then whatever that stuff was? Thanks for posting, perhaps when all the smoke clears that fram endurance will be the dog that hunts better then even rp.

The reason i would choose this one over the new ultra is the box on this one specifically says spun microglass and wire backed. It honestly lookw identical to a royal purple filter baseplate and all. Someone called fram tech line and fram says 99% @20 microns. Now i have 4 ultras in new ultra packaging but i can see thru the holes that its the old synthetic media wire backed version

I wonder if they will just replace ultra at some point? if so, that would be a great way to do it.

Says spun glass, not "synthetic"? i.e. not polypropylene string?

Actually it says synthetic spun microglass i just realized the synthetic part

Damn, I just saw that after wading through 8 pages of BITOG babbling.

Sure looks like a Champs Lab Filter to me. But why? What is Fram's latest owner First Brands doing?

I still don't understand what Fram did with Ultra XG. They told me one thing, but we haven't even seen one in the field yet.

It seems like all these filter manufacturers are making filters for each other. I know nashnative on bitog says theres filters wix makes for fleetguard and theres filters fleetguard makes for wix and same goes with donaldson but that anything that says stratapore or nanonet is only made by fleetguard and same for donaldsons synteq media. Strange business to me

Yes it is and i dont fully understand the inner workings
None of the filter makers make a full catalog. They all cross pollenate each other with contract filters made for each other. It is usually the obscure low volume filters or the cartridge styles that are still under patent with the original filter designer/maker.

Can we please make commercials great again? Commercials are so bad lately it makes tv near impossible to watch. A sample of when commercials were great...
