Got a new painted steel 1500 bumper going on in the spring. I want to protect the paint and wanted to use a film. Having a hard time finding precut films for the lower steel part of the bumper.

pic of the bumper attached. My stock chrome looks fine (chip wise) but I’ve heard the painted bumpers chip easier.

I'd probably just take that bumper in and pay to have it covered with ppf. How much could it cost?

Have you thought about taking it to a Tint Shop & have them apply a Wrap ?

My .02 having installed some PPF -not an expert by any means- is that bumper is too contoured to be properly covered by a precut piece. Surfaces with a lot of contour seem to work best with bulk film, because more stretching and massaging is needed to get a good fit.

Precut is more easily applied to panels that are more two dimensional. At least that’s how I see it.

My new truck has the 2 tone paint scheme. Coming from the chrome bumpers, on my Gen4 truck... these painted ones are very fragile. So far I have bought the mopar touch up paint, and just keep it waxed. Honestly I am kinda disappointed in how easily these chip, and the chrome was pretty much idiot proof. Lessons learned there.

I would just have it Line-X'd and never worry about it again.

I have been looking at getting my chrome bumpers sand blasted and Line-X at some point. It isn't cheap though.

Just to wrap the front bumper *** over $500. A new color matched painted bumper was the same cost. The walnut brown metallic is impossible to match too. I’ve wrapped my door handles with what I could find and in the shade it’s close but not in the sun.

Chrome has held up well but took a folding tonno cover at 70mph and dented/scratched the bumper. I also hate chrome and have the opportunity to swap off. Doing front and rear bumpers and already dechromed the door handles, mirrors and grille.

Yep, I've learned that lesson on our vehicles over the years too. I've PPF'd some of the painted areas on some, and that works well. For a while. But after a few years, it gets ugly too. If you want a painted frontend and want to keep it looking good, you just have to live with the negatives.
