This the recall for the 68RFE tranny over flowing and possibly squirting fluid on the turbo, causing engine fires. Talked with the dealer today about this recall. So what he said they are going to do is , with provided parts in a kit..... REMOVE THE OE DIPSTICK ASSEMBLY AND REPLACE IT WITH A much SHORTER VENTED TUBE. YOU WILL NO LONGER BE ABLE TO CHECK YOUR TRANNY FLUID LEVELS via the current dispstick as it will be no longer there. Also the vented replacement tube, can over flow fluid from underneath the tuck, instead of on the turbo.

Not sure this is what I wish to have happen. So what happens down the road, when you want to change the fluids in the tranny?

My FCA recall paperwork list the recall for my 2022 as ZA3/NHSTA 22V-835 not Y97... As for the short dip stick, I have read that they are just replacing dip stick (not dip stick tube, to keep your old dip stick before having recall done so you will be able to check your own ATF) with a dip stick that will lock along with a new lower vent tube... If they tell me they will change dip stick tube with a shorter one I will tell them I refuse to have it done, no way will I pay some shop or FCA dealer to check my ATF for me...

This is what they ACTUALLY do when they perform the recall:
-Open hood
-Remove the existing dipstick
-Insert the new locking dipstick
-Close hood
-Get on creeper and go under truck, and remove the existing transmission vent
-Install the new style transmission vent

Ask them for your old transmission dipstick back, so you can use it to check fluid level. Pretty simple stuff.

So ok, what causes the problem? Never heard of this till recently. I wonder why it’s happening on the newer trucks when it didn’t previously. Maybe they started to put the Bosch 4.2 in the tranny for higher pressure???

So the bottom line for those of us that check our fluids regularly we now can't check our fluid?? That's total bull crap! I'm really struggling about my decision to purchase a Dodge. This is the first one that I have owned in my 67 years of life and last one! I have never had this many recalls on any vehicle that I have owned.

Not to change the subject but I have noticed a reduction in mileage since the recall of the cp4 fuel pump to the cp3. Anyone else?

read post #3 above ,that should help with any misunderstandings . Seems like there won’t be any issues with checking the fluid.

I also read on another forum that Ram will be getting new locking dipsticks that are the right length so you can check your fluid. They will become available and you'll have to ask the dealer to get one for you FREE.
At least that's what I remember. I'll have to search for that document.

My dealer finally got one of the kits for this in, thats not spoken for. Will get this #ZA3 recall done next week. Smaller dealerships can only order one kit per week at this point.

Well here's an update on this. Per post #3, at one time maybe you could ask for the dipstick back. Now you are no longer allowed to ask for your OE dipstick back to check your fluid levels. They are now purposely directed by FCA, to not give your old dipstick back for any reason. So I asked them , how do I ever check the tranny fluid levels....to which they replied you dont.

By now, they should be installing the new full length locking dipstick and tube.

When I go to have mine done my ATF dipstick will be missing, I will put a sandwich bag over the opening along with a zip tie to keep it in place that way I have a way to check my ATF fluid...

Thats what I should have done, but by the time I realized what the deal was. I was at the dealership, and the service advisor had already had the unpleasant conversation about the fact I could not have the dipstick back. And I didnt want to look like a nut job. The online bulletin the dealerships get, for this recall

states in red bold letters that they are NOT to give the OEM dipstick back to the customer. I know they did not replace the OEM dipstick tube, as they only had the truck for 30 minutes.

I have to go get mine done, but I'll have a conversation about it when I go make my appointment.
I might have to go the sandwich bag route or just leave the dipstick at home. I only have 1/2 mile drive to the dealer.
"OMG, someone stole my dipstick!"

FYI, according to my dealer the longer 44" locking dipstick is NOT currently available from FCA. They are saying that they will get me one, but its not available yet?

Thanks for posting that letter. I am going down to the dealership and making them order this for me. Meanwhile I will still use my older dipstick to check my fluid level. This is pure you know what from the Ram people.

Went to the dealer today, and there was a pile of longer dipsticks on the shop floor for the recall. So I guess they have revised the actual parts now on this recall. Now if you have it done, you get the 44" long locking stick with a new tube. I had mine done two weeks ago, and so far I cant get the longer locking stick assembly, because my recall has already technically been done. RAMCARES this is really a bunch #$%it. Now the SA at the dealership are telling me, that no one really checks their own fluid levels anymore anyway, so why all the fuss? Well then why did FCA revise the parts for the recall, to include the longer stick assembly...... if there really isnt any need to check your own tranny fluid levels?

I asked about the longer dipstick last week when I bought my '22 and the parts manager said they are due to be released to the dealers "soon" and I should get one in late June or early July, Pensacola area.

I think your dealer is full of it, I recall reading that they would replace any short dip stick for those who requested it to be done...

I just dropped my truck off this morning for a warranty job and the Service Advisor mentioned that there were a few recalls that needed to be done. I asked that they not do the locking trans dipstick recall until they can get the longer dipstick. He said that is fine, they will order the longer one, and they can't even do the short one now because they don't have parts for that, either.

On a separate note, he also said they would complete the grid heater relay recall - they actually have the relay in stock for that.
