So, trans seems to shift just fine, but if I gas it a little bit, i get a small studder every time a gear shifts. Almost like theres lash in the diff, or driveshaft, or something like that. I think the trans is just fine...never slips or misses or anything, but it DOES have almost 200k miles and I have never flushed/changed filter.

What could be causes and how can I verify/rule them out easily...Can a torque converter cause somehting like this?

Never servicing your transmission can cause the symptoms you describe . You change your engine oil to avoid catastrophic failure, however the transmission is neglected for almost 200k and do not have a clue as to why it’s having issues.

yea thats probably an accumulation of crud somewhere, impeding proper shifting. what trans?
on my old 06 545rfe i had those symptoms at around 100k miles, i had never serviced it but i could tell the pan had been off before i owned it because it had lots of non factory silicone squeezed out
anyways i changed the filters with wix, a new dorman pan with drain plug, complete system and cooler flush with synthetic mopar atf+4 and it shifted like new again until i sold it at around 200k

Start with the easy stuff. Change your u-joints and go from there.

If I were a betting man, I would put money on 2 things:

1) I would bet you are real fun at parties.
2) I would bet that my transmission is just fine and my problem is in the driveline downstream of the xmission...u-joint and diff wear being the most likely.

Have a good day. God bless.

Get underneath and spin/shake the driveshaft see if anything wiggles when it shouldn't, that should help identify u-joint or carrier bearing wiggles. Also, the fluid probably is past it's prime and could use a change, but not the first diagnosis step I would take.

The first thing to do, imo is to change the transmission fluid and filter.

Taking care of the transmission with regular maintenance(new fluid/filter)is essential for potential longevity.

Hopefully you won't have to rebuild/replace your transmission. jm2¢
