2009 5.7 Hemi with 265k miles. Engine runs fine, no smoke from tail pipe, oil looks clean on dipstick and under cap, coolant was not low, truck not overheating. But i noticed under the hood coming from some engine block bolts, or head bolts, or some bolts on main part of the engine, this white substance leaked heavily and dried to a white powder. Oozed out. My camera sucks. 333851055_1387730078655912_6638033641166671239_n.jpg333322158_136132085818617_8272512491598968495_n.jpg

this is on passenger side, front of engine, down low. and on the driver side the other bolt has some of the same powder coming from it, but not nearly as much. I will take some more pics, but i think you are right about timing cover gasket. Now, is this worth replacing?

Now, if my assumations are coreect, then you need to take mroe pictures and follow the leak, up wards, to the source.

BTW, I do hope you do not mind my editing. Orignals were h ard to see.
easier to see them, in PS, aftr a bit of tweaking anad re-sizeing.

If offended, i am sorry

Ton of variables but my intial opinon is yes, definitely.

Not like replacing a pressure gasket were you will jsut be chasing leaks aroudn teh block..

If truck is still fine, otherwise, why not spend soem money on it, to keep it goin g.

If price of replacing is worrisome, due to mielage or age, the consider a rebuld by local shop or long block. again, if truck is otherwise fine.

no matter the issue, the ture issue is repalcing the cause, either by fising it, replacing with newer u se truck or goign to brand new turck.
that is dependent on this trucks overall condition and the depth sof your pockets.

Would think you would smell coolant leak on a hot engine........looks like someone tried to stop leak with Irontite or something similar.

Ceramic Sealants and Anti Freeze don't mix

Ceramic Seal is not compatible with anti-freeze. All anti-freeze must be removed before using
Products like Irontite are Ceramic Sealants

That White stuff almost looks like Calcium, like Tap Water has in it

i agree with everybody in the thread. i would do a thorough flush of the cooling system and then do a pressure test to see if you can find the leak. i cant remember but if i'm not mistaken isn't the cooler lines leading to the heater core in the cab located right next to the t-stat housing? this, from the pictures, looks like where its coming from. again a flush and pressure test and you should be able to find it.

i don't always believe what is on the Labels

read this

Irontite Ceramic Motor Seal 16 oz

Part 912016

16 oz Head Gasket and Block Repair Liquid
THE RACER’S CHOICE...Permanently seals leaking head gaskets, cracked heads and blocks in aluminum or cast iron.
  • Coats the engine and prevents formation of rust and salt water corrosion
  • Seals porous castings in the cooling system
  • Add to radiator after removing anti-freeze
  • Stops coolant leaks
  • Promotes heat dissipation for added power
Warning: Ceramic Seal is not compatible with anit-freeze. All anti-freeze must be removed before using.

There was another article about the Reviews from Consumer Reports, that made the same statement

havn't heard any more, I would flush ,and drain the oil as well to check it, you can't tell much looking at a dipstick.
Have you always had the truck or is it new to you?
Did you put any crap/ sealer in it ? Pressure wash the motor to clean it off , then you maybe can see better what it is looks like water pump, but I have hard time with your pictures.
With hi miles you should be cleaning it anyway, if it hasn't been done before.
