Xm Guardian or Map Updates

I have a 2020 Ram 3500 with a 12” navigation screen. I am wondering if you purchase a map update can you search destinations without having XM Guardian. I would have assumed that XM Guardian would have provided and updated map since the service is $150 a year and if you want updated maps that is also $150. I hate that I cannot search and address without having XM Guardian. Does anyone know a work around if I choose to update the Maps.

Don't waste your money updating maps. Use Android Auto in conjunction with your phone and always have updated maps and live traffic from Google Maps. I have Siriusxm Guardian and don't use the uconnect maps. Google maps are way more convenient.
Another thing with built in maps. How much highway construction or major highway reroutes in your travels have occurred? Not enough to justify an update in my opinion.

I agree, updating is a bit of a money waste. Understand a considerable sum was spent to have that hardware and software, but updating gives you months-old data that is already incorrect. Better to use Android or Apple with your phone providing the maps data real-time to your head unit. As for XM Guardian, an Android phone can do everything but remote start your truck.

I agree as well. I use Android Auto downloaded to my android phone and connect that to the vehicle via one of the USB ports. Works fantastic.

I keep getting email notifications to update but I personally don't think it's worth the cost. I'll stick with google maps

I just got my new 2023 Ram, had a 21 Rebel. I have noticed that the Nav maps are not accurate ( Tom Tom ) The salesman showed me how to use my phone to switch to Goggle Maps but they stay on the top Widget and wont go full 12 inch screen with the Goggle maps, any cure for that??

I believe your question is addressed in this thread below. There is no solution at this time.

Hello, 2020 1500 limited. Wondering if and when we're getting Full Screen for Android Auto. It's really a shame the whole thing is crammed into a area barely larger than my phone on this beautiful large 12" screen. Thanks
