Started happening seldomly about a month ago. Last week, the truck was completely dead. Had to use the key to unlock the door. Jumped it with my wife’s car. Took to advance auto for a new battery (previous was 6 years old). 3 days later the truck will crank a few times before starting, sometimes longer. No engine codes. A couple times it would start and stall a few seconds later. Sounds like an alternator or starter issue? Who knows, but it’s at the dealer now…

Long cranking could be fuel pump related also cam/crank sensor will cause that aswel have had these issues with no codes before.

So they came back with some news late yesterday. They state there’s no voltage getting to the fuel pump so they want to replace the TIPM. Honestly don’t know if it’s the correct repair and it’s a bit pricey, but I don’t have much of a choice between a rock and a hard place in this one.

Replaced camshaft position sensor about a year ago for similar issue at a private shop so hopefully won’t be that..

What all codes did you ultimately see with this; did it ever throw any at all?

Update: called to get a status on the truck. TIPM is back ordered and not expected to arrive till the 20th…another frustrating chapter with this truck.

Check this thread to learn about another user's similar experience and the cost he spent on a TIPM replacement.

Also, I don't know if this option is suitable for your circumstance but others have bypassed the fuel pump relay to defer a TIPM replacement. I say defer because chances are you can expect more TIPM grief in the future. Not that my tea leaves said so.

Appreciate the info. Whatever the fix is, I’m thinking it’ll be my last ditch effort to keep this truck. It’s served me well, but the mileage is definitely getting to it.

Update, finally got the truck back. Replace the TIPM along with the serpentine belt which had a massive rip in it and various maintenance needs parentheses transfer case differential, etc. We’ll see how long I can keep this truck alive!
