I have had a steel slider in my 8' RAM for 17 years, when my new '23 came in, I shortened it and installed it today.

The RAMBoxes make it much more useful since in my old regular bed stuff would fall off the sides and get lodged in place.

Nice. Is it something you made or is it bought and needed to be assembled? I'm assuming it's bolted to the bed?

Your are correct, hauling gravel or asphalt, etc.
when you have a regular width bed, you need to lay a tarp on the bedslide, then if there is only one person. You have to hope the person dumping the gravel into you bed, that they dump it in the center of the bed.
I hauled one load that the tractor operator dumped the load at an angle, that was hard to unload, mostly because it was decomposed granite.
