Does anyone know what their 'fix' is?
I wonder what they do if there's a hole rusted in the frame?

I imagine the recall will be similar to the TSB that was released early February for this issue. The repair was to cut out the rusted metal and install a new fuel tank strap bracket.

That bracket must be junk because the under side of that truck is way to clean for that strap to be rusted in two by comparison.

That's what happened to my '01 Ram. The strap holdings the front of the tank broke and it was dragging the ground. No cheap fix, traded it on a new '17. ftd

strap was fine- when i was undeneath, there was some leftover ice/slush from that morning that was in the area where the bracket is- must be the reason why it rusts out, the snow and ice gets trapped in between and settles down into the bracket.

The Ford F150's from 97 to 03 had this issue too except the whole tank would drop onto the road unless you had a model that had the tank skid plate. Pretty scary what could happen if this went really bad.

The design would be fine if they would have put in a weep/ drain hole. They didn’t and the moisture sits back there and corrodes a lot like the wheel wells tend to do. I am sure the recall “fix” will take six months to get “in stock.”

I just had the same happen to my 2016 so they never fixed the problem and mine isn't covered by recall.

My neighbors broke and the front dropped down while hooking up to a horse trailer lucky they noticed it before leaving the yard. Reminds me of the way the forward spring hanger for the rear leafs on the square body chevys used to rot the frame behind it when rocks would close up the drain hole and salt and dirt piled up in it and held the moisture against the trucks frame.

There’s an extended warranty for the fuel tank strap. Pretty sure it’s a 12 year unlimited miles for 09-18 models. Call your dealer and ask about it.

Easy fix, squirt fluid film in there. I did that to a few key points that I learned from my 2014 express. Fluid film can’t wash out and it can’t rust out/off. Front holes on the leading edge of the hood spray toward the front edge and you won’t get rust bubbles on the outside edge of the hood by the grill and headlights.
