I was slumming today BITOG, yes I am ashamed of myself, not posting just reading. But look at the molekule's opinion why you see copper wear with redline... I will post his quote in full, I'm not sure what more you want for tbn, I would say add more mag, but whatever. Seams like ca levels are high to me. His opinion here..

I think the cleanliness AND the soft metals issue are one and the same. The DD levels are low for a synthetic oil and I believe it's because of the high ester content in RL, which make very good scavengers. I do not think the esters are attacking any soft metals, just cleaning the surfaces of bearings, due to their high polar affinity to metals. I do agree that RL's tbn and tbn retention could be better given the price. I think their calcium levels need to be about 1.5 times more than current levels.
C'mon, man!

You can't be that bored in your beautiful climate. We still got 10 inches snow ice and cold breeze. I worked on Harley engine today, still haven't changed truck trans oil.

Watching NHRA Arizona Nationals, here.

I'm a closet @Wild one
the best thing in the world to do is see a nhra drag event, man nothing like it, but in person imo. on the **** tube I prefer the never ending drama of stock cars, but with zero doubt my favorite thing in the world is watching top fuel and funny car drags. I highly recommend trying it in person at least once for anyone not knowing what this is like. Puts thunder in your heart and sol man. under 1000 hp stock cars well nhra 10k ponies, straight rattles some folks.

We got Brainerd International Raceway 1-1/2 hours north of here.
Guys from work race there during the weekends.
NHRA Nationals every August.
I have another tip, go fridays only unless you are into it. We call it fireday, because over here it is the only time you see night runs, plus the tickets are cheaper, track is colder allowing for some fast runs. I have seen 325 in the dark, you can see the fire it is sweet. Cant see the fire on the pipes during the weekend, not as much of a spectacle.

Eight candles burning and raw nitro spraying out... oh yeah!

Nothing quite like disassociated hydrogen flames at night.

Except for battleship firing, which I didn't get to see.

"Well there's flames coming out the sides,
you can feel the tension - MAN! what a ride!"

I hate to be a sceptic. But seriously, does it really matter. I change mine every 5k.

Has anyone been using Mobil 1 ESP 5W-30?

I know price previously kinda made it not worth it, but with everything going up its within $5.00 or so of a lot of other 5 quart jugs. AutoZone near me is also doing 5 qts + an M1 filter for 41.00 (the oil itself is 37, so 4.00 for an M1 filter doesnt seem terrible)

Curious if its worth trying to save the 10 bux or just trying ESP instead.

Thanks.

Not sure, not only low starting tbn but as you can see MAG is low, and that is a recent voa. High boron and great viscosity for a 5w30, kinda rare many 5w30's are getting thin. TBN is more like a group 2 oil. You can see the comments, some people don't believe the tbn, but the MAG level doesnt lie. Most oils are like at least a 1/3 mag to CA, so I'm not sure what they are trying to do I am sure travis would know to the why. Normally you can get SP or SN+ rating buy adding MAG and having a low CA level like 1600ppm, but in this case it is as if to make the small CA level they just ommited MAG. I havent seen this and I don't prefer this for the hemi. Maybe it is for particulate filters on a short interval, but I would rather see some of that CA be MAG even if it is low like that. High Boron is great and moly is very decent, if you bought it I would go on a shorter interval in a hemi.

In order to compare it you would have to post what oil you use.

About to change out Rotella Gas/Truck. I dont have enough of it for another change, and can't find it anymore. I posted a little while back and someone mentioned QS might be the equivalent, which is fine.

I was just curious about ESP (and/or others) because viscosity, HTHS and HTFS wise it compares well to RedLine. I know the additive packs are important too, of course, but figured something that comes close to the physical properties of RL might be worth a try as well.

Even some of the Euro oils seem good as well. But for my use I can't stomach the almost $17/qt of RL. I dont think Id leave it in for a year even though I only put about 6K miles on it, and would hate to be tossing that after 3 or 4K.

Many of us are rethinking redline, trust me. Pricing has changed everything, despite you get what you pay for, if you don't have tick there is next to no reason to use redline imo. Redline gallons went up 49 to 65 and rising, it seams ac
excessive to me. Seams like some corporations went way over inflation numbers. Now, I don't know the particulars, maybe the base oils they have to procure is the issue, but no doubt this will turn off a lot of people. But you can ask corey how well he did finding another option to kill tick, because he tried some stuff for sure, and he still using the redline. it is what it is.

The synthetic doesnt look bad, of course t&g was qsud, cousin oils now neither is available with current info.

I don't generally know or looked at the specs of esp, as in base oils other then group 3, maybe travis is up on that.

I'll probably still stick with Red Line for now, not withstanding my inventory, as price has gone up $28 per oil change, which I can afford once or twice a year. But not if I used my truck full time.

Rotella is gone for good, 2 years ago they stop producing this oil.
