Can someone tell me how I can get more than 3 feet from my running 2022 Ram, with FOB in my pocket, and not have the horn start honking at me? Thanks

Honk as in your horn, or your chime dinging saying fob has left the truck? If horn, never heard of that before, for chime, nope, can't change that. Leave the FOB in the truck as others have said.

My Truck does not have Remote Start - I just want to be able to get out and pick up a package, or go to the back of the truck to dump sacks of corn while the truck is still running - WITHOUT the horn beeping at me... surely there is a way to turn this off.
- Farmer Fran, can you elaborate on the 'proximity' info you alluded to and where I can take a look at those settings?

Yes, I tested the 'driveaway without the FOB feature' after my first few days of ownership.

We require more input from the OP although, as you said, the obvious solution to leave the truck running is to shut off, hop out, and remote start.

Now he's protected from theft provided he is far enough away from the proximity sensing of the FOB.

.
I knows when the fob inside the truck. Tried it, you can remote start it, put keys within proximity on exterior and the push button start will not work.

Well at least on my old RAM

I'm planning to test this, next time I have to drive somewhere. Thanks for the info.

I may just go explore the settings menu sooner to satisfy my curiosity and see if this horning feature is selectable on my truck.

I am 110% confident that I have manually started the truck (using the start button) and exited with the FOB in my pocket, while the truck is running and zero horn activity when I run back into the house to collect something important.

I walk back out, the truck is running, no horn announcement as I arrive with FOB in my pocket.

I'm headed out for a walkabout preceded by a stop at my truck for a quick tour of the settings menu.

Our '23 3500 dually does this, it honks 3 times if you leave the vehicle and shut the door behind you. Definitely irritating, so I either shut the truck off or don't shut the door if it's a quick grab something and go in a secure area.

I'm so thankful my '21 doesn't have that horn feature.

I'd install a bypass switch on the horn to fix that pretty fast.

Come to think of it, if you wired the bypass switch through a relay that was only energized with the truck on, then when the truck is turned off, the horn would be re-enabled for security alarm purposes.

Then that opens a can of worms because you'd require a failsafe method to make sure you didn't drive away with the horn disabled.

No big deal to fix a workaround though.

I hear your suggestion - but trying to find a fuse to tap into, for a relay, that is 'switch on' for my Ham Radio is still running me in circles... This honking is just a nuisance and was thinking maybe someone knew of a work around or setting to fix it. Thanks

I wish there was an easy fix but it appears for 2022 vehicles & on, it looks like you're stuck living with the horn feature or installing some sort of horn bypass switch.

The bypass switch itself would be easy, but the failsafe to prevent driving away with the horn in bypass would be slightly more challenging.

I know if my truck behaved like that, it would be fixed ASAP. I have no patience for idiotic protocols written by suits to prevent litigation.

Funny you say this, I went to work one day. Exited the truck and went in the building. 8am.

At 11am my buddy calls and say "Hey man, your truck is running". NO horn honked!

It would appear that things changed starting in 2022, so you and I have been spared this grief.

My '21 is also free of this horn feature.

I've never investigated the settings on my vehicle specifically to the horn blowing when I leave the vehicle with the
FOB, but I do it all the time. If I'm going into the Post Office, Quick Trip for a short time I aways leave the vehicle running and the horn has never gone off. I suspect there has to be something in the settings, perhaps where you indicate you want the horn to beep when you remotely lock the vehicle etc>??

A couple of days ago I tried this with my 2021 2500. No horn honk at any distance but it did ding inside the cab. You can turn off the ding inside by pressing the < on the steering wheel. Actually tells you how to do it in a pop up in the EVIC when it warns that the FOB has left the pickup. Passenger can do it or you can reach in and do it yourself or leave them the FOB.

There is another option if you want to use the Z-Automtive TAZAR DT for the Ram. It will silence the horn. But it also has a cool feature that requires a pass code by press a code you program through the cruise control. If you do not put the code in, the Emergency Brake / Anitskid pump engages and the automatic transmission should not engage. I am attaching a extract out of their user guide.

Though I know some members, may not like to to modify the truck. I use this device for many other items as well. Something to consider if it is something that you need versuses something your want.

I guess I will just leave the FOB in my purse instead of carrying it in my pocket... Thanks for the replies everyone... at least I found out no one else knows how to change the distance settings either... I feel better now.
I have not read all the replys, but the reason that the horn beeps is because you can’t lock yourself out.
It will also been if you get out and hit the door lock, but if it is not picking up the fob it will also beep

I am sure if you get out with the truck running and if you hit lock on the fob, then it will lock the doors and not beeb, plus no one can jump in and take the truck

Mine is 2014 with remote start and touch-less entry, 8 speed

Not quite right. The horn will beep if you leave the FOB IN the pickup and try to lock the doors with the electronic lock button on the arm rest, or the black insert in the outside door handle. It will however lock first try if you push down the silver manual tab on the inside pf the door and all the other doors are locked.

If the FOB is out of the pickup, whether it is running or not, all the lock options are available first try.

Interesting. I have a 2019 and I've walked leaving the truck engine running way more than three feet away and the truck has never honked the horn, either.

Could this be a 'year' thing?
