1000 miles into this RL 5w30 OCI and back to butter smooth:)
And there is the "trap" in a nutshell. The stuff is friggin outrageously priced, yet remains the nearest thing to a "sure thing" solution for those with a ticking Hemi. It's easy to scoff if you own something that is quiet running rendered yak fat.

Yep, like any non-Hemi engine, for example.

Red Line still cheaper than a $4,500 engine overhaul or $9,000 replacement. Cummins has it's own issues - bad fuel pump, clogging exhaust after treatment, etc.
GM 6.6 is a dog, Ford 7.3 gas is a hog, and their 10 sp trans suck. Maybe they're repaired by now.

Yep, exactly why I will continue to use Redline 5w30 in my Hemi. At least for me, it's only required to do a once a year OCI (2K-3K miles)...and that's enough!

Can't remember who, was just discussing these, the 2 light dutys have problems, apparent the heavy duty Allison collaboration is ok.

The light duty was so problematic GM went off and fixed it themselves. Last I heard Ford was still messing around trying to fix, haven't heard how GM-specific fixes went.

That guy sounds like Kermit the Frog.... his voice grinds my nerves and he always uses a lawnmower engine. At least he might get real world about what he's testing as to it's application use. You know, use a car/truck engine for tests! ;)

All i watched was a teardown of a 10l1000 allison and the 10r140 torqueshift and the ford was quite beefier but thats all i know honestly

ok the real question is, would you rather run filtered bacon grease or lucas in your truck? Here piggy piggy.

Looks like bacon grease visc somewhere around 5? Lucas visc 110. So literally bacon grease would be a better option then one of the most popular oil additives sold today? Honey you smell like blt, yeah I just changed your oil hun.

Experimentation proved if a small amount of tallow (or some other animal fat such as lard oil or ***** oil) was mixed with the mineral oils a nice compromise was formed. The tallow "saponifies", or forms a sticky, soapy emulsion when heated by the steam and agitated by the turbulence in the cylinders and valve chests. The mineral oil gets caught up in this emulsion and, in effect, a crude grease is formed where the soapy emulsion "holds" the oil against the cylinder walls and other rubbing surfaces.

Saponification is also a thing in the coatings industry. Apply an oil based paint on a galvanized/zinc plated surface, and it will peel like potato chips due to saponification. Rub the back of a chip with a wet finger and it will feel soapy.

FYI - changed oil yesterday, from Rotella Gas/Truck to Kirkland Signature 5W-30 (purchased in 2021 if that makes a difference, I *think* it might have changed since then). Fram Ultra XG2 filter (same as previous oil change).

So far so good. Engine sounds pretty darn quiet, all I really hear is injectors even with the oil at full temp. Hopefully my Hemi likes it because I have 2 oil changes worth left of it :)
