I’m looking for ideas on a classy tint to protect against the intense rays we get a mile high in Colorado.
I was considering doing the fronts to match the backs, but even the back window and back passenger doors don’t seem dark enough. I was considering 20% all around because I don’t want visibility issues at night but would like the privacy. Also, any differences in regular versus carbon versus ceramic?

Lucky you can do it. ...they ticket people around here for the slightest excessive tint, which isn't that dark here. Our friendly officiers have a meter to test it with too (I know..) ....

Florida guy here..old eyes, too...I matched the front two windows to the rear. Going around sharp turns at night is still an issue with tired old eyes. I wouldn't go darker than it is, and I don't put the strip at the top of the windsheild. I have also found that the most expensive tint is not the best...and Honest tinter will tell you that.

Here's a good starting thread for examples with photos:

I did ceramic tint, darker on the front two, lighter on the rear three. Factory glass is shaded not tinted, it doesn't offer UV protection. I'd have to find the receipt but I think I did 20% front and 35% rears. I should have done the brow but didn't think that highly of it at the time. My wife asked for it on her truck and now I think it's amazing.

I did non-ceramic (carbon) tint on my Ram in my sig. I did 15% on the back window and rear sides, and 20% on the front two windows. 5% on the windshield strip. Zero visibility issues at night.

I have 20% ceramic on my wife's Armada to include the windshield (50%). Also zero visibility issues at night. You really can't tell the windshield is tinted at all.

The difference is heat. You can absolutely feel the difference, but since I don't have leather (or a black interior like her) I wasn't as concerned about it.

If you can swing it, the ceramic tint is the way to go for heat. I used to put 5% on everything but now that I'm a little older and have gone without tint for so long, 20% is good for me, being able to see at night without rolling the windows down is great lol.

The PO put 5% on the back glass of my truck, tinted the sides to match the rear sides and it looks pretty dark at certain angles but can see out at night easily. I'm going to add either 50 or 70% on the windshield with a 5% strip up top and call it good.

One of the best investments you can do to not only Protect the interior from drying out etc, but also for privacy, and it immensely lowers the interior temps down, and on a dark colored truck…. everything helps :waytogo:

Besides all that……. It looks Bad Aas too :waytogo:

Any chance you’ve got any photos to go along with it?

I’m thinking about going carbon since my trucks garaged when I’m working from home and when I go in to a parking garage. My wife needs the ceramic more than me so I can just pocket the extra. Could I see the 15% on the back window by chance?

I think a similar thread came up awhile ago. It was unanimous I had one of the darkest tint jobs. RCSB 5% all around & 15% full windshield. And a pricey headlight set up for the rare night drives LOL. I didn’t buy the ceramic bit, in the south summer is hot and nothing besides leaving the AC running will keep a vehicle cool enough…like LEO does. Carbon works just fine. 540A4E8E-5558-4EEC-96C1-08AF2627265B.jpeg981075C4-A0CA-4DFE-A704-DCA47F330E7A.jpeg

Same in NY and we can’t get our annual inspection done unless you ‘know a guy’

When I was younger I tried double 5%, was awesome during the day but completely terrible at night, lasted 2 weeks.

I went with ceramic tint 5 percent in the back and 20 percent in the front. Helps a lot here in Phoenix Az. I probably should have went darker but did not want to be bothered by the police when I go to norhern az. 20230410_171007.jpg

Around San Diego, the State & City Police seem to have eased off on ticketing on darker tints.

It used to be, if the officer could not see everything in the vehicle, because of the tint, a ticket was issued.
Then it changed to a pistol grip tint meter.

Now it seems like all the middle eastern refugee teen agers are driving around in BMWs, Audis, Mercedes Benz & their windows are almost as dark as the rear windows in a hearse.

Now native to America teens are darkening their window glass too

I want to move way out into County, where the Sheriff's Department still upholds the Law, without being radical, one way or another

Here's 20% ceramic. 50% on the windshield. (Ignore the mirror covers... we have a bird that hates my wife's mirrors)

There's a discernable difference between carbon and ceramic. Even though my truck tint is darker and my interior is lighter than my wife's, it's definitely hotter inside the cab than inside the Armada with ceramic. You can hold your hand up to the glass on hers and feel almost zero heat. It gets pretty scorching in mine at times, but that's what AC is for.
