‘22 Laramie 4x4, Crew Can, 5’7” bed, SmartCap, 5.7L eTorque, 3.92, 22” wheels with Pirelli highway tires kept at spec psi.

16-18 with thoughtless driving at whatever speed fits my fancy.

If I try hard, run on flat roads and keep at 65 mph, I can get 18-20 mpg.

Towing 5,000 gross weight camper, 14-15 with drops to 12-14 over long mountain passes.

Overall, I would like to fill up less often, but the truck does things that only come with the configuration I have so it’s not worth my time or energy to belabor the issue.

2019.....1500......5.7 hemi.....crew cab....4x4....tow package......3.92 rear end......hard tonneau cover.......with all that said.......we live rural......two lane roads for the most part.....usually set cruise between 50 and 55 mph......on freeways......I set cruize on 62 mph....I average 20 to 21 mpg consistently.......we pull a Casita travel trailer all over the western states......when towing.....I average 16 to 17 mpg........had a 2500 HD Chevy with similar set up before the Ram......I averaged 11to 13 mpg.......this truck is great and a great ride. BTW.....old guy here......my "fast" days are long gone......I enjoy the scenery and ride a lot more now.

Three things…

1) Use non ethanol gasoline.

2) Decrease rolling resistance.

3) Smooth is fast.

I have a 2022 Ram 1500 with 5.7 Hemi - not the etorque engine- I get 16 mpg-
Is there anything that can be done to increase gas mileage?
Jim

I've got a 2019 limited, no etorque and a 2021 limited with etorque. The 2019 rides on 20" wheels, the 2021 on 22" wheels. Both have covers for the bed. The '19 gets about 18mpg and the '21 is closer to 20mpg. Both vehicles I keep the tires roughly 2-3 psi higher (38-39psi). I don't race around town (minus the times my boys ask if we can go "super speed") and the majority of my miles are highway. I may be an exception as I don't go heavy on the pedal. I think the low resistance tires on the '21 make a big difference. Also, the auto shut down, which so may love to complain about, actually does make a significant difference, especially if you often find yourself at long stop lights. Lastly, I see a significant drop in the winter (2-3 psi), which I think can be contributed to two things: winter fuel blend and lower than normal tire psi. I was debating a CAI on the 2019 to see if there would be any significant increase in mileage, but I'm not going to bet my retirement on it.

Word on the street a set of full length headers and a cold air kit will help a lot. Mother mopar does not like your hemi to breathe correctly. bird

Fuel economy should of been a consideration before you bought a 4X4 truck. I moved up a few years back and went from being a life long Chevy person to a Ram owner. I've never regretted my decision, but I do miss the 6.2L. The fuel economy was better as well as the power.

So, you have a 6000lb truck with a v8 engine and want better gas millage? Rofl, be happy. An old school v8 in a 6000lb truck would be getting about 9mpg on a good day. 16 is fantastic. If you have to have a truck but want decent millage, go electric. Deisle is an option, better mpg, but higher fuel cost so not better on the wallet.

If you want a more efficent life, you have to lose the American attitude. Lighter, smaller, much less power = more money in your wallet every month. That is what the rest of the world does. It costs money to thump your chest and say hell yea. If you want to play in this sand box, you have to pay the premium.

If you are getting 16 that is good. Bigest factor is rear end. My 2022 hemi 5.7 etorque with 392 gets 15 to 15.8. Long distance driving at 73 miles 17 MPG. Be happy and enjoy it, you could have bought Chev at 12MPG

Is that city? It is better than my mini van.
You are driving a truck with a 5.7. If you want mpg buy a Nissan Versa.
If you think thats crappy milage, you should have bought a 2500 with the 6.4l V8...;)
My 2018 RAM 2500 4x4 gets 12 in town. At 77 mph 16 or so, at 70 mph up to 18, 65 mph I have seen 20 but not regularly. I am talking average of a full tank of gasoline. I am happy with that mpg considering what I am driving. My mini van only averages 23 maybe 24 mpg at best on the flat running 70 to 75. The 5.7 Challenger RT at 72 will usually get 24 mpg.

I have/had a 2022 LONG HORN 1500 eTORQUE 5.7 V8. My mileage for the last year was in the High 15's. I said had because I just traded it straight up for a fully loaded 2023 Honda Ridgeline and they gave me $3000 cash in my pocket. I now have all the options back that were MIA on the ram due to chip shortage.

Like many have said... there's a big difference in fuel mileage based on time of year and driving conditions. I live in the mountains of Western MD... If I'm not going downhill, I'm going up. I have a 2014 Laramie Crew 4x4 with 3.92. MPG in the winter is 13. Summer is 14-15 max. Dragging my 24' enclosed snowmobile trailer is 8-9 mpg.
But here's the thing. That's better than all the GM and Ford trucks (EB included).
MPG's go up 2+ in the summer (including the same trailer used to haul Harleys).
I can tell you the 3.21 gears do better mpg wise but don't tow well.
SPEED is your enemy. My foot is too heavy. If I run 2-lane at 55-60 my mpg's go up to 17. Interstate running it DROPS to 14-15.
But the terrain is the real killer - I have NEVER had a vehicle get the MPGs on the window sticker. No Chevy, Toyota, Ram, Jeep, whatever.

Can't imagine the range of an EV here. Winters below zero sometimes and wife changes 2500 feet in elevation to go to work (down) and back (up)

I have a '19 1500 Classic Sport 4x4 with a V8 and 3.21 gears. I travel the tollway to and from home to work near O'Hare airport in Chicago, so that's all highway. If I keep my speed around 70-73 most the way, I consistently get between 19-22 mpg year round. You also have to remember I live in Illinois where roads are very flat. Hills are few and far between, so that also makes a big difference for me compared to other parts of the country.

I got 14-15 mpg overall on my '19 non-eTorque HEMI (14 mpg in the winter and 15 mpg on summer blend). I had the off-road package and lots of options so it was a heavy truck.

The only things you can do without getting too far down the rabbit hole (or selling the truck) is:

1. Highway compound tires and keep them at/near max psi.

2. Anticipate lights (don't race up to the red light and jam on your brakes).

3. Accelerate briskly. Don't be Mario Andretti but don't be a grandma either. A generous accelerator up to cruising speed (~3000 RPMs...maybe a little more if you're getting on the highway/freeway) actually helps fuel economy compared to easing on to speed like there's an egg under the gas pedal.

4. Use at least 89 octane unleaded.

5. Get a cheap tri-fold tonneau to cover the bed.

I got some good bang for the buck with #3 (maybe 1 mpg overall) but driving conditions change all the time so, even though you think you are reproducing conditions from before, you aren't.

I did drive a few tanks driving how I wanted and enjoying my V-8. I lost less than 1 mpg overall just enjoying the truck.

Just my .02
Why use 89 octane when 87 works just as well. Same mpg and performance.

MPGs maybe. Performance I disagree.

Whether you notice is or not the knock sensors will retard the timing to prevent pinging, which delays spark, which delays detonation, which results in a shorter power stroke, which ends up being less power.

Your driving may not make a difference that you can see, feel, or hand-calculate, but it's there.

Costco 91 is cheaper than local 89 (Top Tier) around me so I come out ahead on that front. As for 87 I don't run it but that's a personal preference...YMMV.

I didn't want to switch between octanes at fill-up or fill up at 1/2 tank and alternate 87 and 91 each time. I got the 33-gallon tank to stretch my station visits.

Smart move, waste of money, or just a panacea who knows. For me that's what I wanted to do and I could afford it then so wasn't a big deal.

If I still had the truck it would be on a diet of 91 octane regardless.

Weren't we talking mpg, not performance?

I live in Nebraska and I routinely get 9 to 11 mpg on the highway because the wind is blowing so dam hard. I recently started a new position where I am commuting about 180 miles a day. As you can imagine, the fuel costs are insane but I didn't buy my Ram with commuting in mind and it wasn't a consideration at the time. I wasn't looking to rack up a ton miles on the Ram either so I bought myself a lil Ford Focus for the commute. Currently get about 38 to 40mpg on gas and 30ish on e85. Will do for now :)
