seriously tho.

Im gona check back this weekend and let ya know how many of my 20-820’s have the flutes that are not fully open

Obviously when they run that through the roll punch it is definitely not tight enough. Or its worn the F&ck out.

wow great vi-rgin cut open photos, thanks JHoward!

like I said in the syn thread I did my annual filter change last week, my first of a xg2

I installed the filter at 33986km on 20 03 22
replaced at 71323km 29 04 23
that makes 37337 kms (23200 miles) on this filter and a year and a month more or less
changed the oil 6 times during that period. about every 2 months

for me it was visually perfect, no sludge inside, very little visible particles trapped on the exterior of the media (a few shiny metallic specks like you will see in the photos)
no soot or carbon particles like i found in cut opens of my 06 hemi filters
no waves or deformation of the media before i touched it (a bit of weird pleat spacing like you will see)
never had any noisey or dry starts during the year ( i also run almost 8 litres of oil like what was being discussed )
good construction it was tough to tear the media from the base plates. it was very well and throughly glued
once saturated with oil the two medias seem similar, very fibrous when torn but a definite separation between the two

feel free to shoot any other more specific questions I have probably forgotten some observations

I installed another wire backed xg2 will report back next year!

I changed my oil a couple weeks ago, and saved the filter to cut open. Got one of those fancy cut-er-open-ers...so I gotta use it.

So I did. Attached are pics - it is a RP 20-820 on my '12 Hemi 5.7; filter (and oil) interval was right at 5k miles. I didn't comb through the pleats - didn't see a need to. Filter looked good.

Yeah cutting those RP filters is no joke, I never knew how good one of those tools were til I cut my RP's open with the osculating tool. It will work, but some sweat equity for sure.

Looks like the fe2 is a great choice! Pop the box open in the store and check those louvers before buying. Ive been doing that with every louver filter ive been buying now.

I ran 7.5 quarts with the smaller filter for a few OCIs then upped to 7.75 quarts with the bigger filter. Now with the xg2 and HPL i decided to go 8 quarts.

The FRAM Endurance FE2 does indeed look very good. If the RP 20-820 goes missing in action again I might give it a go.

I'm currently using the AMSOIL AEO11, however having to become an limited time AMSOIL member to get special purchase treatment doesn't promote me to buy again. Good filter ,tho.

Does putting in more than seven quarts of oil cause any issues, such as blowing valve cover/head gaskets, etc.?

I'd like to try adding an extra quart to help reduce the occasional excessive valve/drive train noise.

All mine are good but they are all DEFINITELY not the same. Some are slightly open more than others but they are all good enough IMO to run.

Thanks guys for enticing me to check. And i have 15 of them left. Think I bought 25 to begin with. There was a shortage happening a few years ago when they were potentially switching manufacturers so i got a lot to be safe

I've been running the SRT filter from Chrysler. But last time I was at dealer...they told me they weren't sure when they could get me one because supposedly it showed that it was on back order or something. So I ended up getting the WIX version from carquesr/Advanced Auto. WIX # is 57063 carquest # is 84063. Was gonna do an oil change this weekend and went to get another filter from carquest. Now the filter has changed part number and the new one supersedes the old. However, the new one has a 22psi bypass valve rating whereas the old one and SRT version had a 12psi bypass valve rating. Is that gonna cause any issue?

Last time I checked, maybe a week ago, Rock Auto has the SRT filters in stock for $11 each. I usually use them in my 2500, although there’s an RP in there at the moment since I couldn’t get any at the last oil change.

It shouldnt matter, and if by chance it did you would notice it at startup in cold weather only. You would hear it knock and psi level on evic would be much higher then normal, IF there was an issue. However, I really wouldnt expect a noticeable difference, you just now know what to look for.

Ok, 1,000 bucks for a 50 plus year old filter? Obviously it is just for looks, a paper filter that old is toast, but it actually paid off as this guy won a lot of respect with this restoration, plus won gold award in this show. I'm not sure what those guys are talking about, super birds are over a million not even close as nice as this one. I bet he could get 2, just an opinion.

Mancini says one of the hardest parts to find for the restoration was this oil filter, as only assembly-line oil filters were green like this. Want one? It'll set you back $1,000.

Question to the masses… how often are you changing out your oil filters? Every oil change? Every other oil change?
Thinking of switching to every other oil change.
I replace mine every oil change. I run 5000 mile OCI using PUP 5w30+ lubegard and RP 20-820 filter. I have no tick. Purely being preventative.

I would say it would be ok to do 10.000mile filter interval. I do my oil changes when the RAM say it is time and that is ~8.000 miles. Manual says max 10.000 between right?

Edit: I run Redline 5w30 and RP 20-820 filter

I personally wouldn't wanna be on record for saying this is a good idea, but truly a RP 20-820 can go 10k miles w/o degrading. So the filter is good, of course the greater issue is the quart of dirty oil it holds in the system. So if you are married to that idea, I'd probably drop the oci a bit, say 4k miles instead. But if I was using PUP which isnt that more expensive then cheaper option, I'd stick with 5k mile interval and change my filter.

In doing so, changing the oil filter at every other oci, is the idea based on a savings cost of an oil filter?
