$11K base price increase over 2 model years. Not to mention the increase in options pricing, some by 50%. How long can they keep this up and still sell them? I suck at math, but that looks like 18.2% over 24 months. I know we were running 9% plus inflation in 2022, but I didn't think it was that high in '21...Maybe I'm wrong.

I'm sure some will keep buying. Not me. I think it is ridiculous. Could I afford a new one? Sure. I just refuse to do it. Mine is a 2019 2500. They have basically kept them the exact same, so there is no reason for the crazy high prices now.

As long as people keep buying and there's profit to be made, the prices will keep going up. Today's price will look like a bargain next year :). I have seen it with my own eyes.

Keep in mind the truck design and options may be the same, but the wages they are paying the union and the people who work for the union are not the same, and neither is the price of steel, glass, 0% financing, health insurance, and the other stuff they do to unrelated to the truck itself you have to pay for to get one. You guys think trucks are bad… anyone try to buy/build a house lately?

Heard tonight, one of the news stories headlines was about being able to buy a new car , is now becoming a fairy tale. And that most people wont be able to do that anymore. And that a car loan payment now is averaging $1500 a month.

When I was in the market for my new truck late last year. I built my truck online and started to look. I found one locally that was almost perfect and bought it. The sticker price of my current truck, an early 2022 was $10k less than the one I built online.

The wages didn’t go up anywhere near that much. I got a 3.5% raise this year (best since 1992 or 93) which was roughly $1.35 on the hour and I was ecstatic. They’re still using the pandemic, chip shortage, etc as an excuse. Since most people can’t pay cash they’re going to offer low interest rates on their own at these prices.

My 2021 Level 2 Power Wagon is easily the nicest truck I've ever owned.
It's also the most expensive. ( and 2023s are nearly $20K more than I paid)
It is, in all probability, the last truck I'll ever own unless the V8s become illegal to drive in the future.
Since I no longer use it for a daily driver I'm not racking up many miles on it so hopefully it'll outlive me...

Which means, you fell behind by 6%...So did the rest of us. Buisness is reporting record profits, which means most of them are using challenges to up pricing and people are paying it.

So far, so good.

Please remember that we live in a capitalistic (well, it's being eroded, but let's not talk about that here...) society.
Agreed. But there is a tipping point in which someone's greed causes damage to other then themselves. Fixing that seems to be a socialist endeavor for which i am against, but waiting this out sure isn't fun...At some point, this economy has to go downward. Polarization of earners has long been in play, but it's nearing completion to a society of haves and have-nots.

That 9% inflation BS is a propaganda number that the gov't/media puts out. It couldn't be more obvious that prices on everything have gone up significantly more than that. A 9% increase would be a relative bargain at this point.

I'm glad that I'm good with vehicles for the next decade, at least. Between the pricing, the ever expanding electronic nannies and doodads, and the "fuel-saving" design changes that are destroying previously well-designed engines, the automotive future is looking bleak. Goodbye V8; turbo 6 to turbo 4 to the inevitable fall of the ICE.

If that's true, there's more to it than just the insanely inflated vehicle prices. A payment that high is partially due to a low down payment.

That, and people over-buy...You'd rather have that 3/4 ton diesel instead of the mid-size truck you could suffice with. Kinda like having a Casio that tells time and insisting you need a Rolex.

Lets not forget the resale on crappy cars is not that good, so when they don't have the money to fix them, they just roll over the upside down loan into a new one. And they smile as they sell you the GAP insurance you so desperately need.....
