Can't use the 4th gen wiring in your 05. At all. FYI the cluster, radio and HVAC controls from the 4th gen that fit that dash won't work with your wiring either. 4th gen = two generations of CAN bus beyond your PCI bus.

Nope. 06 started CAN bus. This would work better for you though in terms of the cluster and HVAC controls being the same shape as what you already have so you could use your own harness inside the dash.

My question is, why in hell would you think you could mix and match stuff like this across multiple generations?

Certain things you can. Seats for example (2012-ish seats in a 2003):

But you can't really mix the electrical differences. So if you want a 4th gen dash in your truck, you need the WHOLE rest of the donor truck for everything to work right. Like I said, you can use the later 3rd gen dash (06-08) you will just need to use your original harnesses.

There's a guy on here that's swapped several 4th gen dashes to a 3rd gen, his name is fastmopar69. You use your current wiring harness and need a to trim a little of the 4th gen dash to get it to fit but it's doable. You'll also have to make your own ac piping to the vents. There's even a guy on YouTube that put it in his 2nd gen. You just have to keep the same wiring harness and route it with the new dash. The 06 to 05 will be easier than the 4th gen it should just bolt straight up but again you have to keep your wiring harness and re route it to the new dash.

I have a question with the harness, would you have to do any thing with the harness and have to splice new connectors to work for the late 3rd gen dashes

Florence, Kentucky! Hey neighbor! Get a picture of your truck up so I can look for you when we go to Costco.

I have tried searching for fastmopar69 to send a message and no known user.

Yep, this guy @Fast69Mopar. He hasn't been on here in a good while but maybe DMing him might work. For the record yes it will bolt up pretty good, but the HVAC systems between 3rd and 4th gens are different and the wiring would be MUCH different. At one point fast69mopar said he basically put a 2015 truck (engine, dash, whole 9 yards) into a 2003-2005 body. Pretty neat but I could imagine very expensive

Throwing in an '06 dash into your 05 would be a bit easier, but you would have to keep your old wiring harness, controls among numerous other little quirks between the years that would probably make things a bit more frustrating than it would be on the surface

Shoot I just this after a while. And yeah last I spoke to him he swapped a trans, engine, dash, harness, and all over into his 3rd gen. He was working on a way to make it easier for people to swap to the 8hp70 trans in their gens without doing an entire swap.

Posted this in another section here that caught no attention. Maybe General will have better luck lol

So I am attempting the 4th gen dash in a 3rd gen body, I've found enough pictures and videos of other people getting it done and talked with fast69mopar enough to where I am confident to get this done. But I have these buttons now that will be just for show and I was wondering if I could use them for other things, like a button to make my mirrors fold in for example. There's only 3 pins in the back and im assuming one is power and the other 2 lead to the 2 buttons individually or a ground and then 1 pin to both buttons. If I find which one is the power could I theoretically use these buttons?
Anyone by chance know what the name of this module is called so I can find the pinout in a manual as well

On a Jeep jk forum one of the members took theirs apart and added more switches to control things. Been awhile since I’ve been on the jk platform so I can’t help you much past that. They did have a pretty good write up on it and how to. It looks to be the same exact switch in a Jeep jk.

That switch panel is controlled on the CAN bus, it's not a standard switch so you can't just wire them to other things.

So this particular style on all except like the 2013s? is controlled by a LIN bus on the 4th gens IIRC, so they would be a bit difficult to wire up on their own. One of the guys on this forum made and at one time was selling a kit that came with wiring, fuse/relay box, and everything to make one of these run but I forgot who exactly it was or if they still are selling it.

A little off-topic, but one thing I was playing around with at one point on the 3d printer was adding the Aux switch from the 09-12 Rams and the '12 JKs like from ibikes post into a late 3rd gen. Didn't get fitment down exactly but it was getting there before other things took priority. Didn't know how easy these switches were to modify though, may have to continue down this rabbit hole at some point
