Hi all- I just experienced the "shut down". Here is my story and I would love advice. I went into my dealership last month to ask about getting everything on my truck checked out as well as an oil change with fuel filter change as I am planning to hit the road in July for a cross country trip with my 5th wheel. I was told I was next on the list for the fuel pump swap out and to wait and they would do it all at the same time. I told them I didn't want to wait too long because I wanted to make sure if they found anything, I would have time to get the parts and repair completed before I went. I was assured it would be within the month. Well.... this last Saturday I was hauling my brand new beautiful 5th wheel and the dash lit up with "Service Electric Throttle Control" and then "Exhaust System Service Required See Dealer". And- then I had no acceleration. THANKFUL I was able to pull off somewhat safely on the side of the interstate. Then it died. 4 hours waiting for 2 tow trucks and sitting in the blazing sun and praying my set up wouldn't get hit by the semi trucks flying by I survived. I called yesterday for an update at the dealership and was told, yep- it was the CP4 fuel pump and that they had to wait to see what Ram wanted to do. I know they are responsible for the replacement of the pump, fuel lines and injectors but I will be honest- I am concerned this caused more damage and I will be stranded on the side of the road again. Not to mention- I am down a vehicle. I am a recent widow with a kid still at home and I need my truck! So my question to all of you knowledgeable Ram owners- how do I proceed? Do I just go along with their way, whatever that is? I would like to go into this with some knowledge. Any advice welcome.

Hopefully Ram will decide that a situation like yours, will count as an Emergency & therefore it will jump to the head of the CP4 fuel pump line.

Don't take my word for it, but i read some where that the dealerships only receive one replacement Fuel Pump a week

Maybe there is a customer service that can act as go between between you & the dealership & maybe even Ram Headquarters

@RamCares might do that

Hopefully some else will have a better answer, but I believe your everything depends on part’s availability. We’ve been for over two weeks for a wheel bearing for wife’s Cherokee. The dealer did supply a loaner under the lifetime warranty though. She’s driving a nice 2023 gladiator. You might give ram cares a shout and see if they can exposure things for you.

Completely agree with "hunter", contact "Ram Cares" here on the forum and ask for assistance from them. You are in a unique situation and this would be a perfect time for them to help you out.

Hello,

We are sorry to hear about your experience with this. The high pressure fuel pumps are currently on backorder due to part shortages. Our team is working diligently with our suppliers and supply chain on getting this issue resolved. We do apologize for the delay. We will be sending out a notification letter once we get some further feedback on this. We appreciate your patience and cooperation. Should you have any further questions, please send us a PM. Thank you

Unfortunately, I think that is corporate-speak for you are SOL. Best bet is to work with the dealer that sold you the vehicle. It is a long shot but maybe they can come up with a loaner for you. Not sure about something that will pull a 5th wheel. I have not seen that type of loaner.

And that does this guy no good. Ram should send EVERYTHING that is need to get this truck up n running again. Ram has been paid, the product is garbage. They no it, that’s why there’s a recall. Or better yet, Ram should fully reimburse the truck owner for the aftermarket conversion…..every penny! Ram Cares is a joke at best.

Hello,

We are sorry to hear about your experience with this. The high pressure fuel pumps are currently on backorder due to part shortages because we are using all of our parts to build new units to sell to unsuspecting suckers who haven't heard of our crappy customer service. Our team is working diligently with our suppliers and supply chain on getting this issue resolved just as soon as we sell all of the units we are making for this year. We do apologize for the delay but our profits come first and you are somewhere down the pecking order. . We will be sending out a notification letter once we get some further bulls...er... feedback on this. We appreciate your patience and cooperation, not mention you holding tightly to your ankles through this process. Should you have any further questions, please tell someone who CARES...just not us. Thank you

I had good luck with the RAM cares team for a very minor issue, but they did help me out. If the parts just arent available, there is only one thing to do, and that would be to trade trucks for 2022 or newer without the pump recall. Definitely not the best answer, but otherwise your going to have to wait it seems. Man what a bummer!

And after its fixed it would need to be vetted out before I would hit the road too.

I recently crossed over and traded my '19 hemi 1500 for a '22 2500 with 6.7. that fuel pump recall does not show up on the list for me. did they do something different for the '22 models? I do have the flaming dipstick and melting preheater bolt to worry about.

You have a CP3 pump...the old style that never had any issues. Since it didn't, some engineer decided it had to go, so they designed a "new" one. After that worked so well, they went back to the old reliable CP3 in 2021.

Any vehicle being down sucks, but her situation is not unique and should not get her front of line privileges. Probably quite a few others are waiting on replacement pumps also with like problems.

You are one of a few to who this has happened and its unfortunate. Here are some thing you can do: 1) Talk to your Service Advisor and his/her manager and see if you can get the name of the Divisional Service Manager in order to get your case elevated. In addition have them confirm they have submitted your Vin. Every parts set is allocated to a specific Vin. But it is true that dealer allocations are few with the volume being set by the number of 6.7s that dealer has sold. So low volume sales=low volume parts allocation.

Then get onto the MOPAR Service web page and put in your request for expedited delivery through their web mail. I have heard of this working in special circumstances which yours may fit.

Lastly, there are aftermarket replacement kits available which you can fit and claim reimbursement from Stellantis/Dodge/RAM. Again, I have heard of owners doing this and getting their money in 6-8 weeks which I thought was "rocket" speed time. They will reimburse labor and parts but nothing more including transport and or rentals.

Why an '07 Ram Cummins sold for $48,328 with premium. Original sticker was $44,035 on Bring A Trailer.

So, Im looking into filing a class action lawsuit after receiving a recall notice from FCA. The issue being that FCA knew this pump had a failure problem and has been slow to resolve it. Their solution at the moment is to replace the pump that has failed with the EXACT same pump, which is currently on backorder or in very short supply. Not to mention it will also eventually and inevitably fail again.
Chrysler does not have a completely new redesigned pump, nor do they have a solution to reassure its customers that the replacement pump will prevent this from happening again. I dont plan to be one of their guinea pigs to find out either.
The pump on my eco diesel failed with 24k mi. on May 19th 2022, they had my truck 30 days and replaced it with the exact same parts. On June 25th 2022, the day I picked up my truck a representative from the Stallantis sent a message to inform the Service Manager about the impending recall. I have a copy of this transmisson, and FCA has had well over a year to find a solution. So, not to drag this out but if I were you I would demand they buyback your newly purchased truck. Its not worth the risk of injury or death to you, your family or the innocent person driving behind you who couldnt stop in time to avoid hitting a broken down truck due to a fuel pump that failed while hauling you family with your 5th wheel.
