US Navy, 1980 - 2005. Retired Chief Master-At-Arms, Ops Chief, ComSubGru 9 FP Det 2. It was mostly fun, until you get stupid and start taking on responsibility that you weren't handed, then they won't let you run, jump, and shoot with the troops anymore.

In an effort to ensure proper training and readiness among the military services, Congress has approved the following changes to basic principles of recruit training:

HAIRCUTS:
Marines: Heads will be shaved.
Army: Stylish flat-tops for all recruits.
Navy: No haircut standard.
Air Force: Complete makeovers as seen on the Jenny Jones show.

TRAINING HOURS:
Marines: Reveille at 0500, train until 2000.
Army: Reveille at 0600, train until 1900.
Navy: Get out of bed at 0900, train until 1100, lunch until 1300, train until 1600.
Air Force: Awaken at 1000, breakfast in bed, train from 1100 to 1200, lunch at 1200, train from 1300 to 1400, nap at 1400, awaken from nap at
1500, training ceases at 1500.

MEALS:
Marines: Meals, Ready-to-Eat 3 times a day.
Army: One hot meal, 2 MRE's.
Navy: 3 hot meals.
Air Force: Catered meals prepared by the Galloping Gourmet, Julia Child, Wolfgang Puck and Emeril Lagasse. All you can eat.

LEAVE and LIBERTY:
Marines: None.
Army: 4 hours a week.
Navy: 2 days a week.
Air Force: For every four hours of training, recruits will receive eight hours of leave and liberty.

PROTOCOL:
Marines: Will address all officers as "Sir," and refer to the rank of all enlisted members when speaking to them (i.e., Sgt. Smith).
Army: Will address all officers as "Sir," unless they are friends, and will call all enlisted personnel "Sergeant."
Navy: Will address all officers as "Skipper," and all enlisted personnel as "Chief."
Air Force: All Air Force personnel shall be on a first name basis with each other.

DECORATIONS/AWARDS:
Marines: Medals and badges are awarded for acts of gallantry and bravery only.
Army: Medals and badges are awarded for every bullet fired, hand grenade thrown, fitness test passed, and bed made.
Navy: Will have ships' engineers make medals for them as desired.
Air Force: Will be issued all medals and badges, as they will most likely be awarded them at some point early in their careers anyway.

CAMOUFLAGE UNIFORMS:
Marines: Work uniform, to be worn only during training and in field situations.
Army: Will wear it anytime, anywhere.
Navy: Will not wear camouflage uniforms, they do not camouflage you on a ship. (Ship Captains will make every effort to attempt to explain this to
sailors.)
Air Force: Will defeat the purpose of camouflage uniforms by putting blue and silver chevrons and colorful squadron patches all over them.

CAREER FIELDS:
Marines: All Marines shall be considered riflemen first and foremost.
Army: It doesn't matter, all career fields promote to E-8 in first enlistment anyway.
Navy: Nobody knows. The Navy is still trying figure out what in the hell sailors in ABH, SMC, BNC and BSN rates do anyway.
Air Force: Every recruit will be trained in a manner that will allow them to leave the service early to go on to higher paying civilian jobs.

U.S.Navy 1977-1989. E5 electronic tech on e2c and mh53d. USS Independence and the USS Denver. Served on the east coast and the west coast. Been around the world and definitely found out the USA is the greatest place in the world!

I am new to the all of the Forums, and I am not even a decent "Techie". It took me too long to just learn how to make my CAC card work, and I get confused trying to identify the chip location when buying fuel.
I may also be an antique on the forums as I was commissioned in 1970, completed several "Officer Branch Basic Courses, etc. and then POTUS Nixon gave me an all-expense paid vacation to the nations at war in SEAsia. For those who have been in the National Guard, or Army Reserve you know the drill about being selected and promoted out of your billet, I was selected for promotion to Major, but elected to "park" my non-aviator billet and reverted to a CWO slot. I have flown virtually every non-gunship RW aircraft from Loaches to Chinooks, and FW RU-8 & RU-21 aircraft as well as a couple of Vietnamese non-standard (for US) aircraft. I eventually reached the point where passing a flight physical, even with waivers, was not in my future and eventually retired as a CPT(P), MI, USA. Bronze Star, several Vietnamese decorations including the Cross of Gallantry and the Civil Affairs medals, Master Army Aviator, etc.
In the interim, while not on active duty, ADT, ARNG, etc. I had a non-DOD position as a Special Agent with the U.S. Department of the Treasury, and also retired there.
Post DoTreasury SA retirement, I a joined several firms concurrently and was in private practice as a Partner, specializing in the Forensic Sciences, Psychophysiology (Mil.Speak for Polygraph Examiner), Crisis & Critical Incident Management, Fire Science and High Energy (Blast and High Energy & Physicsm along the way becoming a professional graduate student earning an M.Dsc. in Pharmacology, a Psy.D. and a PH.D.
I am now officially retired for the 3rd or 4th time, but this is Final (having said that before, but...).
Down to business in trucks, I am, less so now than before due to a number of reasons, some residual effects of my SE Asia Vacation courtesy of DoD, as well as some insecurities that have arisen in my favorite Off-Roading Exploration times in the vic. of Ft. Huachuca, and Tombstone, Antelope Wells, N.M. and the SW Border. Friends who are Agents in the USBP have told me that the Animas Mountains are not even safe during hunting season, as are the areas between Sierra Vista and Nogales, AZ.
Now you have my entire bio written in, as my Partners occasionally remark, other than abbreviated, polysyllabic, worst imitation in brevity. I am looking at a 2024 Ram 3500 Crew Cab 4x4 HO Diesel to go off-roading in the least explored territories of the SW, yet far enough North of our ongoing war with invaders. I am looking for recommendations for any special equipment it might behoove me to order on the Ram, I did not see any factory winches as are available on the F-350 Tremor, so other than a "Snow Plow" option, that will come to pass.
For those of you who have tackled my bio, and may be knowledgeable in tough trail off-road traveling in an occasionally too long truck for the game, I look forward to hearing from, and about what you like, and dislike about the current Ram trucks.

USCG Veteran 1975-1979. I set out to make a career of the Coast Guard but due to smaller boats in rough water, I ended up with pretty severe back problems. I decided to get out before I ended up with a medical discharge.
