Tire pressure sensor

My tire pressure light started flashing at me the other day then went solid as if one of the sensors is failing but after a couple drives the light went out. Not sure which one is failing? Truck was bought December 2016 and has original sensors. Any way to tell or wait for it to fully go bad? Planning on buying a couple so I can have a new one installed in my spare as well since that does not have one.

As long as they are all working there is no way to tell which one is bad. But just wait, it’ll go bad and quit completely. Always happens that way

Soon as you find out or it goes bad just replace all of them ... hit or miss with these sensors

I ordered 2 for now. If the rest end up going out I’ll swap them. My VW sensors lasted 7 years and were still going when I sold it so I know it’s pretty hot and miss on life span. My wife’s Toyota is going on 10 years and the sensors are still original

Have you used a good mechanical gauge to check the air pressure
I air my front tires to the door sticker plus 2 pounds
rear tires are 3 pounds over because of the weight in the bed

Yes. I run 38 front and 36 rear. Most of the time. Just checked last week and do a visual inspection almost every time before driving.

I just brought it up, because in 2012, i had a job following a section of a Wind Powered Generator from San Diego California to Keyser, West Virginia , On Mount Storm

I knew my tires were inflated to specs plus, but when we were in Kentucky, one morning my warning lights came on all the semi trucks & pilot cars had to pull off the road, ( luckily there was a roadside coffee shop there.
It turned out that it was cold enough to cause the air pressure to drop in the tires.
We got back on the road again & as the sun heated up the road, my tires pressure raised back up.

That was my first experience with the TPMS system

Are these sensors part of the valve core? Can they be removed, replaced with new, and than simply re-inflate the tire? OR, does the valve core need to be changed, meaning a tire shop?

For informational purposes only.. ( I am not advertising) Americas Tire stores have, at least mine does, a scan tool the identifies and checks TPS sending units, and they can program new sensors,,,
