So upon request of a few members I was told to start a build thread. So here is everything from Aug 2010 until present, bare with me as this is going to be a long winded first few post.

So I will start out that I got this truck in Aug of 2010.It is a 06 Dodge Cummins 5.9,Auto trans and had 131k on it the day I bought it and it also had a super chips tuner on it.Got the truck and fell in love with it.My first mod was window tint other then that in this picture the truck looks just like it did the day I got it.

Shortly after that I started hearing a ticking noise when driving the truck and over a few weeks it kept getting worse,Took it to a diesel shop in VA and had them do a shut down test on it while the injectors was still in the truck. At that point the guy told me that injector 5 was bad and number 6 was not very far behind it,so he quoted me $4k for 100hp injectors and a air dog plus the install. So I got $4k went in the shop and had planned to give him half and then the rest when the truck was done.He then informed me that he wanted the full $4k up front, after that I left and never went back. After looking up and reading a bunch of DIY injector removal and install I tackled the job my self.

I called up Scheids diesel and ordered me a set a injectors brand new with 100hp tips already installed on them,I also ordered a Air Dog and even had enough money left over from doing everything my self to get a 5 inch turbo back exhaust.

So after I got everything installed my Super Chip's tuner would not load back on to my truck..I had taken it off once I was told my injectors was going bad,So I had a buddy selling a smarty and jumped on that deal.So then I got a really great paying job last Feb which has allowed me to mod to where I am now. After I landed this job I got and Edge Insight CTS for gauges and picked up a Sliver Bullet 66/74/14 from industrial injection,a AFE one piece manifold, and MBRP intercooler pipe for the passenger side.

I got everything installed and it was game on then, well for about 1-2 months then my trans started slipping really bad..I called up DTT they are based in Candna and ordered a fully built trans completely billet. When I ordered the trans I was told 2-3 weeks I would have my trans which was fine, well it ended up being 2-3 months before my trans showed up.Once it did get here I had a local shop do the install on it,finally I was able to drive my truck.

So a month or so goes by no problems then me and some buddies went to a truck pull one weekend and before we left I cranked my rail pressure up on my smarty..We get out at the truck pull and my truck is covered in oil tail gate, bumper etc did'nt have a clue on what was going on so I go to leave that night and my oil pressure dropped to 0 turn truck off drive half a mile and it would be back to 0.So I pulled it into a gas station said heck with it I will be back tomorrow,it was 3:30am and I had enough. So we go get the truck load it up on a trailer and get pulled home by the ol duramax, once I got it home I started thinking maybe a head gasket blew cause I did'nt have stud yet.Well I pulled the oil cap and did not have any blow by but I had a really strong smell of diesel fuel, which told me it was a injector.

So I pulled them again and sent them back to Scheids diesel so I could figure out what was going on.About a week later they called and said I had cracked a injector body and that they would fix it this time as the injectors was under warranty. So at that point I was kinda effy about pulling the head and looking at everything just to make sure I didn't melt anything. But after talking with some people and building my confidence I started to tear it off.

Once I got the head off everything check out to be good. But I didn't have my injectors back yet,so I told my self I mid as well have fun while I am in this far.So I ordered Hamilton Springs,Push Rods,ARP Head Studs,6.7 Mega Rail kit from Glacier Diesel MBRP intercooler tube for the driver side and sent a ton of stuff out to powder coat to a place in TX.So I got everything put back together and this is what I ended up with.By this time I think is was Aug and there was a dyno coming up within 100 miles of me so I wanted to get everything finished up so I could get on it.Once I did they truck ran so freaking great and smooth power was great with the smarty

So I made the deadline and got on the dyno for the first time and layed down 600hp 1100tq which was ok but still not what I wanted. After that nothing big has really happened.I got laid off in Nov and has put the go fast parts on the back burner for a while.I sold my Sliver Bullet 66,AFE Manifold,Intercooler tubes. The new that is in my sig is not here yet due to not working, they keep giving us a start date and then keep pushing us back a month.I reckon that is how it goes in the construction business. But since then I have just been tinkering with little things,I will keep the pictures coming. Also a lot of little things that I never talked about but may have pictures of so keep your eyes open.

Here are some more random pics

Nice build man...I will be there someday I hope.

Question for ya, how was the 66 as a daily driver? How bad was the lag? EGTs good with the 100hp tips?

I'm looking to upgrade turbos soon and I want as big as I can go without compromising my DD ability.

Only thing I can say when it come's to turbo's and lag is where I drive and how I drive may be different to where your drive and that is going to change things a lot.

As for that turbo I would not recommend buying one.You may be ok with a 66 but not that one 66/74/14,my egts never got out of check and my cut of is 1350.One reason why I think I never really cared for that turbo is because it needed more fuel 100s is nothing on a 66.When I first put the turbo on I had to re learn how to drive it so I wasn't smoking all the time and that is something you have to do with a bigger charger.Biggest is not always the best, you need to sit and think about how much power you want and what you do with your truck tow, drag etc etc.

If I wasn't shooting for a strong 750hp,mine choice of turbo would be the 351 Hostle that fleece makes it looks just like a stock turbo but the specs is 63/65 billet wheel.I have a feeling that it would be a great turbo for all around and it could also be used in a stocker/twin kit. using the 63 as your stocker.
Plus they take your turbo for a core charge which I don't think any other company dose.Fleece back's the numbers up,how many other companys videos on you tube with there products and dyno numbers...No one.

Sweet...thanks for the first hand experience. My thought was to always for with a 63 but I figured I'd ask.

63 turbo and 45hp sticks would be my max for my DD...I've figured that would be the best for a DD. I don't want smoke (waiting on EFI Live) and I figured with that 66 all you'd do is smoke if you didn't ease into.

Thanks man

Great info. Now would a 62mm or 63mm be able to use all the fuel from 45-60HP nozzles and a heavy fueling tune like SW9 on the Smarty?
