update on sons new 2500 Cummins

Exactly why trading in is ridiculous. They paid him 29 and will sell for 49. That is sick and horrible.

    Synthetic Diesel Oil

It doesn’t breakdown like conventional so you don’t have to worry about it getting thin then really thick and causing sludge. It is superior in pretty much every way. If you filter it well it will last until all the detergent is gone.

I think it does clean really well which could be a factor. Hard to say but I have seen that on here too. We have seen reports of it being louder but wear numbers on UOA were really good still.

I believe it is stout oil. I know many pages back 5W-30 Full Syn Max Life was shown to be awesome for wear. I think Rats blog showed that too. I would have to look back. I have in one of my extra cars because of that write up. It is a bit noisy in there which a 3.1 GM. I think those engines are...

I’ll have to take that up with Walmart I do see they decided to give me the FSP vs PP. Still weird they would go without Dexos cert.

Pennzoil was crap before SOPUS. Once Shell bought them and Quaker State they both became really good. I don’t know what they wanted to buy a basement dweller to start with but they did. I am sure some really liked those names. Old Pennzoil was known for waxy bad quality oil. Anyway, Dexos is...

I am wondering if this new option god shall we coin it FSP is made similar to QSUD. Which would be fine by me as QSUD 5W-30 is great too.

They are evidently moving toward this branding at Walmart. I ordered them as PP but they gave me some of this new package and sku. My point is the new option is not dexos. PUP has always been hard to get at Walmart in store. It would seem PP and PUP will not be in store now. I haven’t checked...

We have them in the thread. We have seen this many times. PUP on paper is excellent. Doesn’t stop the ticking like Red Line though.

Caught up. I got behind. Fun times out here. I recently got the Walmart PP 5W-20 desk which was 6 qts for $7.98. I ordered many mostly to use in my wife’s van as I usually use 5W-30. Anyway check out this change. Old was dexos approved. Looks like new formula isn’t!!!

100% same way I feel about it. RP, EA are 1a and 1b Purolator boss is 2 FU number 3 and I dot love them because it seems like they don’t have as good ADB as the others. I’ll run them in a pinch though.

Probably depends on climate and altitude would be interesting to see what others are at. 87 in a 5.7L 4th gen here yields crappy performance. I can’t stand it.

It is noticeable if you use 87 instead of 89. It retards and makes less power when you use 87. I am sure it isn’t bad for it but I don’t like it. The same is true on my Yukon XL it calls for 91 and when I use anything less I can totally tell power is reduced. Idle is rougher. I use 91 almost...

I think he likely meant top of the line group 3. Which it is. It isn’t going to be as good as some Amsoil (SS), German Castrol, in the Group 4 and certainly not in line with redline Group 5. PUP is the best group 3 I would argue that with anyone. I think PUP and the other group 3s do hit a sweet...

Very valid point. I live in ND we have plenty of power via wind and coal. We don’t however have the weather to easily support since the winter makes batteries way less effective. This can be an issue with diesel here too. Leave outside unplugged for the winter and chances are pretty good you...

I haven’t been keeping up as I should been busy with life. I did want to share I got Shell Gas Truck 5w-20 full syn at Walmart on clearance for $10 a 5 Qt jug so I bought the last three. I’ll use them in my wife’s T&C. l then found a random quart of PP 10w-30 for $1.66 they only had one left. If...

It looks like they cut the one that is quick connect on so you can probably use your old one or worse case buy that piece as though it came with a 32. Back by that red connector.

Yup I left the one that came on it. I did end up replacing the little leak detection pump because the one that was on salvage unit failed. So I put the one on from the 26 and it was all good.
