    Tone ring

Can anyone tell me if there is more than one tone ring configuration on the crankshaft on the Hemi? I am building an engine that came out from a Jeep to put into my 2012 Ram 1500. If there are differences, could anyone tell me the number of "teeth" that I should see on the 2012 tone wheel. Thanks!

Took a look inside my hemi

What i see here is a rather strange metal transfer from the piston to the wrist pin. That type of failure usually only occurs because of excess heat and lack of lubrication. This is indeed a puzzle given the short run time of the engine. As far as putting the piston onto the rod 180 degrees...

    Exhaust Manifolds | Warped

The manifold problem goes way back. My 1977 B100 Shagginwagon with the old leaning tower of power had a few of them crack.

    Exhaust Manifolds | Warped

When manifolds, blocks, heads ...... pretty much anything made from cast iron will have internal stresses within it. It takes thermal cycling to relieve those stresses but unfortunately, it often causes other problems. Those of us old enough, will remember the performance engines from Direct...

    Spark plug swap

Pull the front wheels and inner fender liners, it then becomes easy to access all the spark plugs. Much more comfortable than standing on your head to get the job done. The worst one that I found was #8 ..... it was nasty. All the others were easy with access through the fender well.

    Engine Build

Well, progress today was slow what with life getting in the way. On the bright side, I got the block all finished with the clean up, dropped the crank in and did a plastiguage on all the main bearings. All a smidgen over .002" but under .003" so they are good to go. Probably will get all the...

    Engine Build

I've ordered from them 3 times now, first order, was poorly packed and the carrier managed to break the box and one part was missing. Contacted Rock and they shipped the replacement very quickly. Second order was OK. The most recent order, well, the package of valve seals had been opened and...

    Engine Build

Well, I started my engine build. First order of business was to reassemble the heads. So, I opened the box of parts from Rock Auto to get the package of valve seals out and to my dismay, the package had been opened and stapled closed again. The little seal protector was missing. Now, the...

    My turbo stopped working

I would just clean it and use the truck for its intended purpose. Make it work. Those Cummins are designed and built to work. If they don't get "hot" they will carbon up. Remember in the early 2000's when Chrysler had an update to the idle strategy because of carbon build up on the exhaust...

NEED HELP! CHOOSING BATTERY for 2500

I've had good luck with the battery from Walmart, their batteries are manufactured by a name brand company whose name escapes me at the moment.

    Crankshaft position sensor relearn procedure

It is just plug and play. I did one on my truck, pulled the old one out, put the new one in and away I went.

    Tie Rod Torque

That knuckle is aluminum if I recall correctly. Over tightening it could stretch the tapered hole in the end of the knuckle where the tierod stud goes through.

    Installing Limited Slip carrier???

I built one of those tools years ago. Shop was too cheap to buy so I got busy with a nut, a length of bar and a 1/2 inch drive socket along with a bit of arc welding, it worked like a charm.

    Oil for Rebuilt Hemi 5.7L

Thank you or the info. From my research, the oil that I use is next to mobil 1. I've been using it aong with a can of liquid moly since I bought the ruck at 56000 kilometers, it now has about 220000 kilometers. I'm suspecting a failed cam. I think these engines accumulate sludge in the oil...

    Oil for Rebuilt Hemi 5.7L

Before my 5.7 decided to cr@p out, I consistently got22 to 23 mpg on highway at 100 kph. As soon as I ooed on te travel trailer, the mileage dropped in half. I am truly puzzled because I have he lifter tick but no metal. I cut every filter with a filter cutter and use a magnetic drain plug...

    Exhaust manifold stud nightmare

I respectfully disagree, I did mine about 3 or 4 years ago and no problem since, No cracks, no broken bolts and best of all, no warpage. I followed the proper torque values and sequence with the exception that I stay a bit lower on the torque on the rear bolt on both sides.

Can't say this enough Do Not buy things like injectors/spark plugs etc. off Amazon / Ebay

I bought a set of o2 sensors of Amazon, wow what a headache! They created a lot of driveability problems. The only good thing that could be said about them is that they were easy to return.

    Exhaust manifold stud nightmare

Why would you buy a new manifold??? The best fix is to get your manifolds machined at a competent machine shop. That will bring an end to your broken exhaust stud problem. The older more used manifols, the better! The manifolds on the vehicle when it was new we refer to as "green" cast. It...

    318/360 swap in 91 D150 definitive answers?

Make sure you use the proper torque convertor. The 318 is internally balanced whereas the 360 is externally balanced. Hence, the chunk of weight on the torque convertor for the 360.

What is a good ODB2/CAN Scan tool

I'm using an Ancel FX 4000. It works ok and does most of what I want. Works on my Ram 1500 and on my Grand Caravan. It was though, a bit of a hassle to get the updates to work properly because the manufacturer like a lot of other is more interested in selling than they are in fixing the problems...

    2009 5.7 oil pump failure?

Pay particular attention to the bolts on the front main. I've seen them covered so badly by sludge that the bolts wouldn't fall out after backing them out of the threads. If you look at the front of the engine with the front cover off you will see the outline of the oil gallery that the main...
