Casting Sand: 6.4 Hemi HD Coolant Filter

Has anyone ever figured this problem out? I have an awfully hard time believing the issue is casting sand, as it would stand to reason that would be a problem that presents itself very early on, not after roughly a hundred thousand miles. The debris that regularly shows up in pictures of people...

    swap my 66RFE for a G56....cost?

Any updates on this? Been following for awhile as my transmission slowly shows more and more signs of failure. lol

What axles are on my truck?

It is an 11.5" AAM axle in the rear and a 9.25" AAM in the front.

WHERE TO BUY LONG TUBE HEADERS 18 2500 6.4

I would have to guess that they won't have them in stock for quite some time, as that's kinda' the deal with backorder. Nobody is really doing long-tubes on heavy duty trucks, so the options we have available don't really have much of a reason to produce them. If you really want them, I would...

Educate Me - Alignment Results Question

Just to reiterate, little bit of cross caster is baked into the axle to assist with road crown, as Dodge trucker suggested, and since its a solid axle is not adjustable. Some people think you can force some correction and try to twist the axle and even out the cross caster, but all that ever...

    6.4 Hemi oil temps

Well...I mean...overheating is always an indicator of something not working properly, or being worked harder than it's designed to. When it comes to overheating, regardless of what thermostat you put in the engine, once the target temp of the thermostat is reached, it opens up fully and is no...

    6.4 Hemi oil temps

It is my experience, not only with my 6.4, but with most engines all the way from small cars up to 50L+ diesel generators that oil temps like to sit between 200-255 depending on how hard it is being worked. I will admit that those temps seem incredibly high, especially if you come from the...

    swap my 66RFE for a G56....cost?

Would a flywheel and clutch assembly off of the 5.7 trucks not work? For what it's worth, Mexico has trucks with the 6.4 and G56 from the factory, I'm fairly certain.

Third brake light 2018 ram pickup

I'm going to say that the lamp probably needs to be activated in the BCM. Being as its a CANBUS system, its not just a matter of having hard wiring and switches, it all goes through the computer. I would imagine that all the power and wiring necessary is there and you just need to 1) take it by...

Trying to find shorty headers, 2015 6.4?

I'm not sure who makes shorty headers...although I know there are some...but for the money you would spend, there is really not a lot of advantage to them for the cost, outside of the obvious warpage. A solution outside of headers, would be to have your warped manifolds planed and make the...

    Premium vs regular gas

Hemis, at this period in time, are not direct injected. Also, the theory behind the use of higher octane vs lower is valid. The 6.4 is capable of running 87 minimum, but the manual even states it is not uncommon to hear ignition knock at idle as a result. As a rule, that is not a good thing...

3500 Hemi 6.4L DRW 4x4 Regear Price Check and Recommendations for North Georgia

I did my gears going on 2 years ago...I spent about 1500 for 5.13's (AAM and Yukon in the front) with bearing/rebuild kits. I ended up paying a shop to do the front after I struggled to complete the rear, and I believe they charged me 1700 just for the front and to double check my work in the...

Another Transmission Issue - 4th Trip to Dealer Advice...

Sure. And they replaced the solenoid pack, too. Twice, because the replacement was defective. You're on your third transmission. Just because it was replaced doesn't mean it's not defective. As I mentioned before, the majority of the problems that occur in these transmissions are rooted in the...

66RFE strange shifts, anybody experienced these symptoms?

Problems with the solenoid pack usually result in a check engine code. Limp mode goes into effect any time the PCM acknowledges irregular parameters coming from the sensors in the transmission and can be a myriad of things. The solenoid pack is not known to be a regular problem aside from a...

Another Transmission Issue - 4th Trip to Dealer Advice...

The problem lies in the valve body. Basically all the problems with these transmissions are valve body related and the poor machining and casting quality of the components resulting in leakage. The rest of the transmission is generally pretty stout, with no real concerns, to the best of my...

66rfe sonnax line pressure booster installed

I've always read that you need to do the relearn to correct the CVIs with the new valve body, and trying to do the "drive it easy" way can actually cause damage to the trans. If you have an Android device or a laptop, you can get AlfaOBD, as well as any means of OBD interface (I've been using...

    Help! Another ABS discussion!

The problem is in the wiring harness somewhere, almost guaranteed. Replaced all the pertinent parts with no change, and it being intermittent, it is likely a broken wire or loose pin in a connector. Happens sometimes. Typically any sort of intermittent problem like this is going to be the result...

66RFE strange shifts, anybody experienced these symptoms?

The solenoid pack TSB/recall/whatever had to do with shift issues caused by a loose pinout in the connector of the solenoid pack. The issue usually causes a check engine light to pop up, and has some pretty obvious shift/drivability issues associated to the tune of limited speed and gear...

66RFE strange shifts, anybody experienced these symptoms?

For what it is worth, at 1:43am CST, RockAuto has one more CHR146 in stock according to the product page after I just placed an order for mine. https://www.rockauto.com/en/parts/sonnax,CHR146,valve+body,8548

66RFE strange shifts, anybody experienced these symptoms?

No, the valve body can be removed from the trans just by dropping the pan which is a part of the regular fluid service. It makes sense that it could be a warm only condition due to the fact that temperature can affect the quality of the seal between channel plate, separator, and valve body...

66RFE strange shifts, anybody experienced these symptoms?

Sounds like it probably is a result of the valve body. The VB controls all of the shifting actions, and it definitely is not programmed to downshift violently for no reason. The VB's have a myriad of little things wrong with them, but the big one is cross leakage in the channel plate which...

    Transmission problem - advice needed

I mentioned cases would be different, but share most of the internals. I think the pumps are different due to the difference in RPM range and TC stickout, but as far as clutches, sprags, and most of the other hard parts, I think they are the same unless you can confirm different. Brochure...

    Transmission problem - advice needed

As far as I know, the 66 and 68rfe transmissions are identical save for the actual transmission case itself. I believe a majority of the hard parts are shared between the two, valve bodies included, and the only reason for the different cases is due to the bellhousings for the Cummins vs Hemi.
