The coating is not where you get your gloss from. The paint correction and enhancement is where the shine comes from. The coating protects the shine you created with the polisher. Be careful with a $400 coating, they probably don’t even touch the paint with a polisher.

Every paint is different. You likely have hard paint and yes it does put microscopic scratches. If you don’t see them you are not looking in the right light or angle.
Suggestion, after you finish your correction and before you apply the protection you should wipe down With an IPA. Mix 50% distilled water and 50% alcohol. This will clean off any oils left behind by the polish.
