For the guys who think deactivating the mds via a tune is a good idea

“Proper delete” means replacing the hard parts not just pushing a button to disable solenoid activation. Based on videos I’ve seen that open up the engine and trace oil paths, this is the only way to disable MDS (which I hate for the record) without starving the lifters of oil...

Thanks to hurting my brain and reading 120+ pages, I can share this is the solid answer on size differences: https://www.ramforum.com/threads/oil-filter-thread.110675/post-2413501 The 20-820 is as good as it gets for anyone wanting to maximize filter media area (roughly correlated with...

    Higher capacity oil filter

For anyone who doesn't want to sift through the 120+page oil filter thread, this summarized my findings from reading that wrt RP and 5th gens: https://www.ramforum.com/threads/switched-to-redline-5w30.208966/page-2#post-2905291

    Switched to Redline 5w30

I spent most of the day yesterday re-reading the oil filter thread... sort of like slow distillation -- 120+ pages of rabbit holes, ******* contests, comedic relief, re-asking the same questions... and a bit of gold here and there (sorry for mixing metaphors). As great as that was, I want to...

Let me know if you find one you like. I am re-reading the oil filter thread now.

    Switched to Redline 5w30

I need to read that thread again. Main takeaway from that plus a few YT discussions I watched a couple years ago where they dissected and compared common brands was RP was generally higher quality. The devil is always in the details. Unfortunately I think the 20-820 is too long for 4x4. I’ve...

    Higher capacity oil filter

Agree the OE filter size is laughable, or perhaps infuriating. Lots of options discussed in various threads, but none work for 5th gen 4x4 that I’ve found. Too tight due to steering rack/diff. Used the RP 20-500 when I briefly ran a relocation kit, but no good options now.

    CV axle problems

Honestly, it seems like crooks that would sell you a diff to replace a CV axle… so I guess that generally aligns with the ethics of big city dealers. Crazy how complicated “simple” repairs we used to do on a barn floor have become (fixing a broken axle in an OG Power Wagon with my Dad is one of...

For the guys who think deactivating the mds via a tune is a good idea

This. The truth is out there. That said, I personally hate loss of power, crappy sound and generally not having the V8 I paid for… which is why I’ve disabled DOD/MDS/whatever in every truck I’ve owned since this became a “feature.” Shame it’s such a big deal for our trucks. Taking the middle...

    Transmission service

lived there 14 years. wouldn't have afforded a house or my current truck if we hadn't escaped. i know it's not an option for everyone though... at the very least, it is a very expensive transmission service!

    Looking for new Shocks

correct, just to make life easier you want to remove the bottom bolt on your front swar bar end link. it will remove tension when you jack things up and droop the suspension. jack it up all the way by the frame, set it on jack stands, then use your jack under the lower control arm to give you...

    MPG effect of Leveling Kit

nothing but anecdotal since a lot of factors at play, but trying to include as many as i can which might differentiate our trucks... i got around the advertised 19-20 combined on my 21 rebel off the lot. 3.92 gears, no e-whatever. leveled on bilstein 6112's (2") but also went to heaveir...

good mechanic/tuner in eastern kentucky area

thanks for the detailed advice @Wild one that video is the one i watched to determine i want to actually delete MDS properly vs "disable" it with the gear limit since that seems to be the worst thing to do in terms of oil flow. that's my main concern, although not having the truck sound like...

    Avoiding the hemi tick?

yes. most agree it's a lifter design flaw, although no worse than, say, chevy's dod (mds) design flaw...just something to be aware of and potentially fix/mitigate if you care and are keeping the truck a long time. mds delete, more frequent oil changes, keep idle times low... look for...

    First Oil Change Coming Up

the only thing i think when i hear "first oil change" is say a prayer, face east, chant a sutra, stand on one leg, do a rain dance, sacrifice a goat to whatever you believe in to ensure the monkey that tightened my oil filter wasn't working the line the day yours was made. if so, ensure your...

good mechanic/tuner in eastern kentucky area

everyone has different opinions on this (i've read a lot of forums/posts/listened to more youtubes than i care to admit), good points in several camps... but since i intend to keep this truck until the doors fall off, i've decided to install a high volume oil pump and mds delete to potentially...

    Security gateway bypass

kaodtech, recommended by alphaobd, use it personally and it works great. several good options based on your goal, just stick with what's proven to work (look at the alphaobd thread on this forum) and you won't have problems/waste money.

Suspension upgrade - finally happy again

I was an idiot, and knew the 6112 fit and was the officially recommended option direct from Bilstein...and ignored the advice they gave me on the phone and went with the 5100 to save some dough. In the end, it saved neither dough nor time...though I now have a little more experience swapping my...

Need help choosing suspension components and wheels/tires

I got the 5100's all around with RC UCAs and wasn't satisfied with the ride. Called Bilstein, and despite selling them and seeing plenty of DIYs, they actually advised against 5100's on the front of our trucks. Just moved to 6112's and JBA UCAs and ride is a dramatically more composed, I don't...

Talk me out of a TRX!

I still somewhat regret not going for the TRX sitting on the lot beside my Rebel (same blacked out fully loaded setup), so I say get one while you still can... before the EPA destroys another motorhead dream. Happy with my Rebel after a handful of mods and it honestly does more than I need...

Suspension upgrade - finally happy again

A while back I threw Bilstein 5100s at max height and Rough Country UCAs on my 2021 Rebel. The purchase was based on a few forum posts and YouTube installs I watched. Since the offroading I do is light (logging trails, forest roads), I figured it would be good enough and save money. When...

    No help from Ramcares

No company cares, they act like they do to sell. The bottom line depends on pinching pennies, especially today. Not right, but my experience 80% of the time. Interesting perspectives though… based on similar experience I guess vs the law. Insurance companies have an army of lawyers that know...

    Larger oil filter

When I ran a relocation kit I used the 20-500. It will not fit 5th gen 4WD without a kit. Wasn’t able to find 20-820 in stock at the time. YMMV.
