    Ball Joints After 42K miles?

I had the front end on my one ton Ford rebuilt at 160k miles by my favorite independent shop. They used quality parts with grease fittings. Good for another 200 k miles.

Help! Can’t decide how to upgrade

It takes a lot of boat to get to 8,000 pounds. Can you keep your boat at the lake? Either a slip or a storage place on the trailer might make sense. I had a heavy sailboat. I found a slip at Lake Tahoe for a couple of hundred bucks and only hauled my boat once in the spring and once in the...

    New truck prices are insane

Don't get seduced by snappy optoins. I like one model above the Tradesman. Vehicles last a long time now, especially with a diesel and decent care. My last truck a Ford lasted over 20 years, and was worth 1/2 what I paid for it.

    Oil Consumption-Can Anything Be Done?

You have just made the case for owning a diesel. You are at the mileage point when gas engines start to get tired. Diesels don't even notice that kind of mileage. The $10k up front is hardly noticeable.

    husky vs weathertech floor

Third generation UW graduate. I like anything with the name Husky on it. Husky floor liners, mud flaps, Husqavarna chainsaws, you name it.

    Oil Consumption-Can Anything Be Done?

It is likely that your engine is showing signs of wear and getting close to the end of its life. Rings would be the obvious problem. Do you have any smoke on start up? In the old days we ran STP in worn engines and straight 40 weight oil. For Arizona your oil is too thin. Keep trying some...

    Longhorn Dashboard Delamination

I live in Nevada, land of severe clear. The first thing we do when getting a new vehicle is put a dash over on it to protect from UV rays. fixing a dash costs a lot.

    Easy-on and off seat covers?

I have some Duluth Trading Co seat covers in my Ram. It is hard to fit the straps on the lower part of the seat. It moves around some, but it is easy to add and remove. Around $100 for a pair.

Let it run or turn it off?

Practice good habits. Just like with gun safety. Get in the habit of safe practices. Shut down yer truck.

Let it run or turn it off?

shut er down. There is a reason there is a warning sign on every gas pump in America. Diesel fuel is less explosive than gas but plenty dangerous. Ammonium nitrate and diesel fuel is a common explosive. Diesels have no spark plugs, but it is still best to shut them down. Ram cautions...

    Engine Temp Normal?

Check your thermastat. In Wyoming it is a common practice to put a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator in winter to increase the engine operating temperature in the cold. We take them out in the spring.

2020 Ram 1500 classic 6 in lift and 37’s what’s the best gear ratio to run with this setup??

It's a Jeep thing. Glad people from the cult of Jeep chimed in. Driving on the highway at 3000 rpms is not my idea of a good time. It is way too much like riding in the old trucks. Unless you haul it on a trailer, you have to get there first.

3:21 rear vs 3:92 gas mileage?

For a truck you are much better off with 3.92s. My first 1/2 ton truck was back in the 1970s. It was great except it came with 3.07 gears. Even pulling a 2 horse trailer was hard on the clutch. I sold it and never bought another Chevy again. Find some good charts. You can adjust your...

1500 vs 2500 for towing travel trailer (downhill)

A 3/4 ton truck is superior in every way going, up and down or on the flats. Some of the approaches to a place like Death Valley are really steep. Sometimes you have to let your engine cool off and sometimes you have to let the brakes cool off even with a big truck and a diesel.

2020 Ram 1500 classic 6 in lift and 37’s what’s the best gear ratio to run with this setup??

Nice chart by olyelr. So it looks like the real answer is 3.90 or 4.10. 4.88s put you at around 2900 rpms going down the highway like old Jeeps.

    New to me truck

I have managed to miss a lot of horses, cattle, deer and elk in 30 years of working in the bush. In Nevada horses and cattle are all over the roads and are our worst hazards. They are big animals and slow to get out of the way. I sick my stock dogs on the ones that are reluctant to leave the...

    Getting a New Engine

Hi Huntergreen, This is another popular misconception. I drove a 7.3 liter diesel Ford for 20 years. With some bolt on parts, my best mileage was 23.8. It needed no DEF, but the engine was anemic. It made 250 hp with a 4 speed trans. Towing was not that easy. Now I have a modern Ram diesel...

    Getting a New Engine

Sounds like you have worked out a satisfactory plan. Repowering with a rebuilt engine from a reputable company. Following the good advice about what to address. With all due respect, I am a fan of diesel truck engines. The $10k for a diesel engine, that gas engine people say "it too...

    New to me truck

When I worked in Laramie, WY one of my co-workers showed up late. He came to work and explained he had hit a deer on the way in. I found out later it was his 9th one. I worked with another guy from North Dakota. He put about 150,000 miles on company trucks and never even put a scratch on...

    Whos Got Mud Flaps ?

Husky mud flaps required no drilling. They did not cost that much. They do the job. They have little mounting bolts that have to kind of moved in an awkward position on the body to mount. I used a magnet and it was easy. check that. It was the running boards that needed the magnet. Flaps...

    Battery Keeps Dying

Check your charging system and your alternator. How much does your truck sit? Modern vehicles have lots of pirate voltage. Conside a battery disconnect. I have a Lexus I drive sporadically. I disconnect the neg battery cable when it is not being driven.
