how many of you tow with a 2 gen dodge

That is 16 hay bales in my 2001 with a 5.2 Magnum and a 5-speed. It doesn’t even squat the suspension. For trailers I use my 2018 Cummins.

2008 Ram 5.7 Hemi Throwing Multiple Codes, fixed and new codes....over and over

My first step would be to uninstall the tuner, then disconnect the battery overnight and start from there. Then sell the tuner on ebay. Generate an itemized list of issues to address. Prioritize the issues. Stick to testing and/or replacing one component at a time. When you change multiple...

    Still new here

Welcome to the asylum. I had a pre-power wagon 2500 with the 5.7 Hemi. After 16 years I got Cummins fever and sold the Hemi to a buddy. In 16 years that 2500 Hemi never went to a mechanic, not once. It was a fine truck. Congrats on the purchase.

How long before engine temp reaches normal op temp?

My 2018 Cummins will take 15-20 minutes to reach normal operating temperature. My gassers warm up faster, but I don’t hawk the readouts on the gassers.

    Top speed

170 mph is a hard “may not” on that 750. Still a classic bike and cool pic. On the speedo, My ZRX-1200R was good for about 155 mph tops, and my Sprint ST-1050 could just touch 170 mph… but in creeping slowly from 160-170 the seconds seemingly turn into minutes and it takes A LOT of straight road.

    intermittent wiper not working

my free internet diagnosis suggests the switch assembly is bad. The wiper motors and electrical wiring is good because the wipers do work, so the thingamabob controlling the intermittent wipers is the likely culprit.

Thinking of making the switch to 2500 6.4

I’d get a couple older HD trucks. My rationale, all the gasser HDs get poor mileage towing. One or the other might go down for repair, but probably not both. Cheap used parts will be available in salvage yards. Actual work trucks get beat on, get dents, grimed out interiors, etc… especially...

    HELP! 2020 Ecodiesel Engine Failure

I’ll second what was said about light duty diesels in American vehicles. They just don’t seem to historically show good longevity in that application. 40 years ago people were yanking dead 6.2L diesels out of half-ton GM pickups and swapping in 350 V8s. It was epidemic. You don’t...

    Eco diesel engine blown

The OP made multiple poor decisions: *Private party sale with no dealer backing. *Mostly or all financed. *High mileage vehicle. *No warranty. *Multiple questionable modifications. *Vehicle model with dubious reliability reports. *OP likely not mechanically inclined or no mechanic inspection...

    Rear end whine

Is the squeal originating from the rear differential? If so, how many miles does the truck have and when was the last time you changed out the differential lube? My wife’s old 2014 did developed a squeal from the rear differential a few years ago. It had about 170,000 miles and I wasn’t great...

"303 Aerospace" Is a Fantastic UV Protectant Product. You will Not Be Disappointed!

I buy 303 by the gallon on Amazon. I started using it when I got a new jeep in 2013. The 303 goes on everything from the boat, trailer tires, truck trim, tractor seat, dirtbike, ATV plastic, Glock frames, Milwaukee 12v and 18v tool bodies, chainsaw engine covers, etc.

Is The Eco Diesel Worth It?

I’ve driven Rams for 20+ years, my wife has a 22 Hemi, I have an 18 Cummins and an 01 1500. I previously had a 14 and an 03. As much as I like Ram, I’d jump on the half-ton Duramax over the Ram eco-diesel. I hear too many issues with the eco-diesel and nothing but praise for the baby Duramax...

Slowest-selling vehicle in America is the Dodge Ram 2500 truck

I think there is more than a single factor affecting lethargic sales. 1 FACTOR: A good portion of buyers *want* to look cool in the big truck or fast car… but don’t *need* it. If they needed to tow or haul, then they wouldn’t compromise the truck by lifting it or installing huge tires, or...

    6.7 Cummins detonation?

Diesel engines run by compression ignition. They tend to be loud and clattery, especially the older diesels that don’t have the newer complex fuel injection systems to help quiet them down. Diesels are susceptible to poor quality fuel. If yours is running well despite sole noise, then I’d...

    1996 Ram 1500 5.9L magnum died

There is no easy button answer with the limited information you provided. If it tries to run on starting fluid, then I’d suspect a fueling issue. Is there some fuel in the tank? Is there a fuel filter, and if so, could it be clogged? Is the fuel pump working?

Gen2 values have wide differences. Why

The value will depend on condition and maintenance. trucks of this (gen 2) age need some pretty extensive maintenance. In the past year, I had to rebuild the entire front axle and suspension/steering. I had to install a new heater core too. Just last week I put in a new clutch assembly...

    2018 Ram 3500 Transmission Issues

Quality techs are getting really scarce. I’ve stopped going to mechanics, with the exception of specialty shops for differential work, etc, or trusted referrals. In fact, employees of any sort have become morons since the invention of the smartphone. Today the dealer where I bought a new...

Two Days Under the ‘01 For Clutch Replacement NV3500

So driving home from a trip to the mountains last week, I went to downshift and the transmission went *BANG* and the clutch pedal fell lifelessly to the floorboard. A quick look under the truck revealed that the throwout bearing left the chat in dramatic fashion. The parts counter guy asked...

1998 Dodge Ram 1500 what trim do I have?

We need more info. Does it have power windows, power locks, power windows? My 2001 is a SL, manual windows, manual locks, manual trans, yet oddly… cruise control. They all still work.

Reproduction Lower Dash Main Frame Assembly

I hope this takes off. My dash is pretty cracked. Every time I go into the dash a bunch of cracked plastic bits fall out. I’ve replaced a lot of the broken plastic structure with sheet metal. It looks factory from the exterior, with nice plastic, but it’s covering a metal endoskeleton...

What Air Compressor do you carry

I carry a Smittybilt compressor, the higher volume model (not the small one). I’ve been using it for a decade. It’s been reliable, and worked well with every vehicle, except one newer Chevy Silverdo work truck where the power draw would make the pickup’s alarm intermittently beep (even running).

    96 ram 1500 performance issues

Over 80mph is a tall ask for an old V6 in a fullsize pickup. But, it may also be a bit tired too. Vehicles of that era are more analog than new digital vehicles. The new digital stuff either works, or it doesn’t. It makes diagnosis & repair easy. Older vehicles have multiple components that...

About to abandon my project truck

Unless they’re got 4x4 or some good curb appeal, I don’t think anything above $3,500 is very realistic for something that isn’t immediately driveable.

    Tires for my 2nd gen

my 2001 has 16 inch wheels and 265/75r16 BFG ATs, same as above. Mine is a 5-speed 5.2L, and I wouldn’t go bigger due to fear of performance loss. If you do go bigger, pay close attention to tire weight, it can vary substantially by brand across a given size.

A/c not blowing cold. Tried charging freeon already

Mine does the same, cool not cold. I haven’t addressed it yet, but this will be my game plan. Look for signs of freon leaking. Typically there will be a grimy spot where the lube oozed out. Get a set of gauges off amazon. Ensure the high side and low side are appropriate, which should...
