    CP4

The CP3 has a puck system under the pistons (3). The CP4 has a single roller under the pistons (2), that rides on the cam. The original poster mentioned the new CP4 is more like the CP3, I wonder is it just the cam that's changed, and the "roller" remains, or did the roller go away in favor of...

    CP4

Questions that come to my mind? .......... Part of the issue with the old design was fuel from the Crank Case of the pump (for lack of a better name to call it) was pumped to the rail, so after a failure all the Flack is pumped to the rail. I believe the CP3 did it a different way? Try as I...

5th gen 2500 level by dropping the rear.

I want to level my 2500 4wd by dropping the rear. I pull a light weight 5th wheel designed for half ton, and it barely sags the rear. I have my hitch and pin box as low as I can go and still clear the bed rails, but my trailer is still a little high in the front. Not bad, but would love to have...

Did you buy a Gasser or a Diesel?

I started shopping 2 weeks ago after the "shut down" I found what I thought was a decent price for a Tradesman 2500 Crew. 5th wheel prep, trailer brakes, and the 6.7. My 05 1500 5.7 pulled my 8000 lb 5th wheel "ok" for 2 years but I had to Drive it all the way, playing with the transmission to...

Occasionally my roof mounted bed lights stay on

I noticed it on my 2020, and one of my doors wasn't fully closed. It takes a pretty good slam to get them to latch completely. Nice tight quiet truck, but it's like shutting the hatch on a submarine.

    Ethanol Free Gas

My Gen III loves pure gasoline. I use it mostly for towing, and I can pull a higher gear if I use pure. I've proved it to my self many times. I don't even look at the price if it's available, it's that much better in my truck. If i have a half tank of pure, and fill it with e-10 premium it runs...

HELP! New ball joints and tie rods, Drives like crap!

Interesting.......... I'm not doubting you, but I can't rationalize in my mind why a different ball joints could cause this? I replaced the Lowers myself at 50K and didn't even get an alignment. Moog problem solvers. I can take my hands off the wheel at 70 mph pulling a 31 foot 5th wheel, and...

    Replace cam as preventative maintenance?

Motor oil analysis is approximately $30 an oil change. Run some good oil, Have it analyzed every other change, and if you start getting metal in your oil re evaluate. Mine is a 2005 so a different animal, but if I had a later motor I would keep an eye on it.

    Transmission issue

My 05 started doing it at 40,000, especially in the winter it seemed like. I changed the trans fluid and "filters" last month at 55K and the issue went away. No shaking, just no movement during a cold start.

Am I the only one with warped rear rotors at 14K miles?

As I understand it, it's not actually "warping". If you park your truck with very hot rotors the spot where the pad rests doesn't cool at the same rate as the rest of the rotor, or something like that. The brake pad material that is deposited on the rotor during braking isn't distributed...

    E class tires.

It's the "20"s that are driving the price on your tire choice. I bought tires for my last truck, and got 10 ply rated Firestone's for $600, but they were "17"s. A word of warning........ your truck will never ride the same, especially if you buy the cheapest ones you can buy. You can split...

    Blew my driveshaft in half

Hilarious! It's not the truck's fault......... It will do what it's built to do all day long. When you build a "Hot Rod" it's always a process of addressing the weakest link to keep it running. Clearly the driveshaft needed upgraded to run that kind of MPH. Going fast isn't cheap................

    500 Miles of Towing

Wheel base will effect your "sway" with a given trailer. I pulled a 16' Hybrid with a 98 Explorer, and It HAD to have sway control. Over the last 4 years I've pulled a 21' hard side TT with the 05 Ram 1500, and it didn't sway, all the way up to 70MPH with No sway, or weight distribution hitch.

    500 Miles of Towing

I just finished 1800 miles in a gen III pulling pretty much the same thing. Same motor, and gears, but a 5 speed auto. On a calm day, or just a hint of a tail wind I get 10 MPG indicated. Head wind I drop to 8.7. That's pretty much my regular range. If I have a good tail wind I've seen 12, and...

    What octane do y'all run?

I mostly tow an RV with my 5.7 third gen, and what I really notice is the Ram pulls much harder on No Alcohol fuel of any kind. On the flats, with no wind I can get over 10 mpg pulling a 7500 lb 5th wheel. If I have to buy alcohol gas, power goes down along with the mileage. If I can get no...

    Urgent Takata Airbag Recall

I've had them both done. Air bags scare me anyway, but shrapnel bomb air bags are just the worst. I dropped mine off, took the shuttle home, and they picked me up when it was ready. Fairly painless. Hopefully the "new" style have fixed the issue.

    Ball joint recall

I haven't heard anything about a ball joint recall? I got letters for the air bags so I don't know. My truck is very low mileage for an 05, and that was the first thing I noticed when I got it 2 years ago with 35K on it. The rubbers had rotted off the lower ball joints. I knew they would take...

Really? $1000 each for a stock size tire?

20's look cool......... I guess. Replacing them sucks though. I think the $999 is a typo. That's a bargain though......... these are 10 Grand...

    Draw-Tite Activator Brake Controller Install

Only Plug and play if you have the Trailer Tow Option, and not just the factory flat 4 connector. There is a plug for the brake controller under the dash either way, so you have your hot feed to your brake controller, and the needed brake lite signal, but if all you have is the flat 4 connector...
