Minor Ping/Piston Slap on Acceleration when Warm?

Red Line and RP filter - the standard for Ramforum lol. I bounce between 5W20 and 5W30 depending on what's cheaper and can ship through Amazon prime to AK. I'll have to look into LSPI oils for a future change.

Minor Ping/Piston Slap on Acceleration when Warm?

My truck also has a ping when warm outside. Pretty much started after the second year of ownership. Truck has had a catch can since new and I changed to a 180 degree thermostat along with a tune to adjust the efan to come on sooner after I noticed the pinging under light load. No change at...

    Clunk in driveline

Mine does the same thing and only noticed it after the truck was tuned. I hear it clunking when I get back on the gas pedal after coasting while driving through my neighborhood. FWIW my truck is a crew cab with the 6.4' bed, 3.92 limited slip rear end and one piece aluminum driveshaft. I saw...

    Upgrade Alpine sub & speakers

Agree. I have the GX302 in the corners as well and no one has commented on them being too bright. It's all subjective though...... just like muffler drone lol.

    Bed length

6.4 bed all the way. If it was the 5.7, gas tank door would be about 9 inches closer to the front edge.

2017 1500 recalls! fuel tank, engine stop

Autopark update also fixed my 32 gallon tank gauge as well. I was surprised that the gas gauge fix still worked even after I switched out to my unlocked pcm.

Recorded 68RFE Temps after the TTBV block delete

Ha too funny. My old 2010 with the 545RFE actually had the trans fluid gel during one of our interior cold snaps. The solution..... thermal bypass valve. Dealership told me that the bypass was only installed on trucks shipped to Canada and no one thought of AK. Now it appears they're...

Do you trust the oil change indicator, or change early?

Change out the oil twice a year. Once in the spring and once in the fall which averages out to 5-7,000 miles per oil change. Use either redline or pup..... and of course a RP filter lol.

    Bucking at first shift

My truck has done this from day 1. It always happens on the first shift of the day or after it's been sitting longer than 6 hours. I thought about taking it in to get reflashed but have read that's hit or miss with some then developing the harsh 2-1 down shift after the flash. I think it's...

    Anyone elses HEMI high idle??

Temps are finally becoming "normal" for the winter around here and I too thought mine was idling high for too long (around 1350 RPM for 5-10 minutes). I did some observing since I saw this post and it appears the idle will drop below 1000 RPM when the coolant temp gets to 140F. If the truck...

    Alaska "wants" on a truck

Transmission heater is the same type of silicone pad that is used for the oil pan. Some say it's bad because you're prematurely wearing out the fluid because of the heat. To me it's not a big deal because the 8 speed transmission already has a heater trying to get it up to around 185 degrees...

Core 4x4 rear upper and lower control arms

I had CORE weld on a tab with a nut and bolt when I ordered mine. They only charged an extra $10. Be nice if that came standard, but in the end maybe it's not an issue.

disable auto park, can it be done

Just got my notice in the mail. Does anyone know how this works with an unlocked pcm? I would of course put the stock pcm back in when going to the dealer for the flash, but wondering when I switch back out to the unlocked pcm if the changes would remain. Not really concerned about the...

    Tuf Truck Coil Springs

I have the 1211’s along with the Bil 5100’s and it’s definitely a firmer ride but wouldn’t call it harsh. FWIW the springs didn’t raise the rear at all really. Maybe an 1/8” depending on how I would look at the tape lol. I ended up adding a 3/4 spacer to get the lift that I needed.

Need pics of drivers bilstein spring clocked

Hard to tell from the pic, but wouldn't that top mounting stud in the picture (furthest away of the three) actually be the one that's closest to the wheel/knuckle when mounted as that looks like the stud on the top hat with that specific point on the plate that is to face outwards? If that was...

Help - Broken PCM Connector Red Locking Lever

Yeah just the plastic cover with the red lever which operates the blue and green sliding locks on the harness. No splicing required. The broken cover comes off by depressing the plastic tab on top of the cover and cutting the zip tie on the bottom. Once it’s off it’s pretty straight forward...

Help - Broken PCM Connector Red Locking Lever

http://www.ramforum.com/threads/help-pcm-engine-harness-connector-broken.105771/ They’re pretty cheap like $3. Ordered a few since I broke mine being in a hurry. Easy to replace too.

    Bilstein Clunk When Turning

I installed the UCA so I know they're good, but it does make me wonder if the LCA cam bolts were fully tightened after the alignment. Read somewhere that that could also make a clunking type noise. Guess I should crawl under there and double check.

    Bilstein Clunk When Turning

Well I torqued the sway bar end link nut to the spec'd 16 ft-lbs after realizing it can be done with the help of my misplaced small torque wrench. Also looked at the knuckle and lower control arm for rubbing. Looks like the lower control arms are okay but appears that there is some minor...

    Bilstein Clunk When Turning

Do you mean by tightening the nut more? I'm sure how to check if the link is bad. Since you can't really get a torque wrench on this one I just counted threads prior to disassembly of the upper end link nut.

    Bilstein Clunk When Turning

No, I made sure it was sitting on the shaft under the tophat.

    Bilstein Clunk When Turning

Here's some pics with the wheels clocked both ways. I did double check the top nut and it's as tight as I can get it with the allen and pass through socket. FWIW during the install I did compress the spring enough so that I could ensure that the top nut was bottomed out on the threads.

    Bilstein Clunk When Turning

Installed the 5100's at the 2.1 setting along with Zone UCA's and everything went according to plan. Had the alignment done and everything is in spec. Truck rides great, albeit more firm and seems to handle potholes, cracks, uneven lanes, ect. well. My only issue is that when turning going...
