**************UPDATE**********************
Having tested and confirming that the trans was shifting correctly I assumed it must be the torque converter. A few weeks ago I had a shop look at it and they confirmed my suspicions. However, I could not afford the 1800 they wanted to replace...
Those pieces look like snap rings to me, probably from a clutch pack. There are factory service manuals still out there free to download if you have not already done so.
I too hate automatics, I had mine professionally rebuilt in 2017 about 50000 miles ago, and I'm fairly certain the...
Joe. You could go stand alone computer. you could retrofit a modded (larger bore) throttle body to a 383/440 intake and make custom fuel rails to keep efi. I'd bet someone makes an intake that can be setup for efi. You could go old school with a carb, and DUI distributor. I'm not sure if the...
Some aftermarket ones just replace the spider gears. If you replace an open with a locking or limited slip then you have to reset the clearances, basically rebuilding the rear axle. If you go aftermarket, I'd recomend the detroit true track. It acts like an open diff until you spin a tire then...
Maybe someone is messing with you, or maybe the truck is putting of the right frequency to trigger it. You know that alternators are 3 phase generators, they just use 6 diodes to convert it to dc power.
There is a 2 wire communication bus that the pcm uses to "talk" to the other modules. Such as the dash, abs, trip computer, seatbelt module, body computer. etc... I had to use the 200-2001 manual on my truck, you can download here...
First, get yourself a set of R134 gauges. So much can be diagnosed from gauges. Also, My 99 had a similar problem where unless you were moving the a/c wasn't very good. Turns out that the old fan clutch was worn out. The truck never overheated, but you could never hear the fan in the mornings...
After looking at a 1998 and 2001 service manual it appears that the plugs are the same but they are wired differently. I know that my 1999 favors the 2001 manual when it comes to wiring.
Just something to consider if this doesn't clear it up. The right side heads sometimes crack from the heat of the catalytic converter. Due to the cats proximity to the right side head, when you shut it off the heat travels back up and can sometime cause the head to crack and look like a head...
Make sure one of the low voltage terminals has 12 volts positive with the key on, the second wire comes from the computer. I believe there is a relay called A.S.D. that powers the coil. Do you have an engine light on? You might be able to test the low power side with a bulb, I'd use a LED...
Oh I have wanted to do that very badly. Make that diesel torque. There's only one way to find out. Although, If I was going that far I might feel greedy and want the 440 setup, lol.
I know a reputatible converter shop. Now is just not the time. The pro-king can be aquired in a few days and has a single dad friendly price. i just need it to last till tax time. Then I will have better options. If I had my way I'd convert it to 3 pedals row your own gears. Manual trans...
I'm not looking for a higher stall. I do quite a bit of low speed driving where I am. I only had it tuned to mitigate the effects of the death flash and its torque management. Before the tune it didn't have the power to maintain highway speed in od on some of the hills around here. I just...
I did the timing chain a few years back. Whatever broke did so when accelerating from a stop. It feels like you're taking off in second untill you get above 2000. I know that it is starting off in 1st because the engine rpms are correct and manually shifting changes nothing. I can physically...

I believe the one way stator bearing in my converter has failed. I've been looking for converters and found that oreilleys carries pro king brand converters for my 46 re. Has anyone used them? I just don't have the money for a billet triple disc yet, Not that the ole gas...
I'm 99 percent sure the stator clutch in the torque converter has failed. It has a tune and a slightly less restrictive exhaust. Otherwise stock. I had re did the plenum a few months back thinking that was my issue. I also replaced the trans fluid and filter here.
Since then i have had to...
I miss read your post, I thought you said it was only the brake light. If it's only the abs light, I'd bet it was just a wheel speed sensor. With 4 wheel abs there is a sensor pointed at the diff on the rear axle, and there are sensors at each front wheel. I just looked up the 1995 manual...
Visibly checking the timing chain is a very time consuming process. It's behind the water pump. My chain had 180 some thousand miles and wasn't very stretched. Generally they slap the timing cover at idle. Here's a video of a loose chain sound.

The fact that you ad to rev it makes me think it's not a lifter. Loose rocker would do it all the time. I've had lifters tick occasionally and it does it at idle. I'd be looking for a small exhaust leak, or maybe an engine accessory that's making noise. You could still have lifter tick, or...
