IS IT TIME 5.7 TO GET DROPPED ???

The straight 6 is such a good design for torque and power. I would love to see a turbo charged gas inline 6.

Is this the correct Redline 5w30 to quiet the hemi?

It was 19 degrees this morning on the way to work. Truck started fine and then I heard the knocking again after about 10 seconds. It has to be piston slap as it lasts about 30 seconds and then goes away only on cold days. We will see what it sounds like in about 500 miles. I think I have...

Is this the correct Redline 5w30 to quiet the hemi?

Will do. Appreciate all the help! Depending on what happens in really cold temps, maybe I will find myself at the 0w30. But I'll report back when I get more details! Again, thanks for all your help!

Is this the correct Redline 5w30 to quiet the hemi?

Finally moved my truck over to 5w30 Redline with the Royal Purple Filter. I have a 2016 Ram 2500 with the 6.4 Hemi. Had two sets of lifters failures in under 50k miles. On my third set now. Have exclusively used 0w40 PUP up to this point. With my last couple oil changes, I have been using...

    Lifter failure!

The current noise could be it is sounded so familiar to the other times where they said the lifters were shot. I'm in Michigan. I wonder if 5w-30 will cause more piston slap than 0w40?

    Lifter failure!

Thanks for all the great information! Redline 5w-30 is where I will be going next. Is redline 0w40 as good considering Ram recommends 0w40?

    Lifter failure!

So I have an update. While they said in the initial inspection that they think there is some internal engine issues, the heavy duty mechanics looked at it and said that it is performing as should be. I do hear a knock on a cold start but appears to go away. This was exactly what was going on...

    Lifter failure!

was it constantly making that noise or what that when first starting and then it goes away?

    Lifter failure!

They decide to replace them all each time.

    Lifter failure!

I challenge the dealer every time but they "assured" me that the cam was fine. I don't believe it at all. It was all under warranty. Now I'm outside of warranty but I believe they will take care of it. We shall see. I'll update this thread once I get more info on this latest issue.

    Lifter failure!

Appreciate all the info. I will check out that thread. What is really odd, too, is that during this time I actually started using Lubegard as well. Didn't seem to make a difference. But I've read a number of Redline 5w30 with RP filter success stories. Once I get past this part, I will...

Will do. I'll be sure to update what is going on.

    Lifter failure!

Appreciate the kind words. So, every time I heard the ticking at startup, I took it in and they said it was lifters and replaced them. Strange thing is that the cam, ODDLY ENOUGH, was fine. I have a hard time believing that lifters are wiped out but the cam is great?!? There was one of the...

    Lifter failure!

I'm about to be on my 4th set of lifters for my 2016 Ram. I've been using 0-40 PUP from the dealer since the beginning and usually get oil changes in 5,000 miles or so. Just took my 2016 6.4 Ram to the dealer with what sounds, AGAIN, like lifters. The initial inspection does appear to be...

    Lifters, extended idle times, oil

So here I am once again with possible lifter problems. To recap, been using 0-40 PUP from the dealer since the beginning and usually get oil changes in 5,000 miles or so. Just took my 2016 6.4 Ram to the dealer with what sounds, AGAIN, like lifters. The initial inspection does appear to be...

    Lifters, extended idle times, oil

I’ve thought about doing a blackstone test. I did drop some lubegard in about 1500 miles ago. Do you think that’ll throw it off the test? I have about 3,300 miles since my last oil change, which reading on blackstone’s website says should be fine. I have also been shifting the gears to 6 (or...

    Lifters, extended idle times, oil

I have a 2016 Ram 2500 with the 6.4 Hemi. I have almost 60k on the truck now. Been through two sets of lifters (on my third set now). Used only 0w40 Pennzoil ultra Platinum since the beginning. Since I’ve gotten the third set installed, by the dealer a few months ago, I have made sure I...

How Many Miles on you 6.4 Hemi??????

Do you use 0w40? I’ve been using the recommended Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0w40 since new. I’ve had lifters replaced twice now and only have 58k on my 2016 2500 6.4 Hemi. I have a couple thousand miles on this 3rd set of lifters and it is already clanging on cold startups for about 30 seconds...

On my 3rd set of lifters with 6.4

I hear a little noise upon a cold start but goes away within 10/20 seconds. I always figured it was lifters but is it piston slap? Appreciate it! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

On my 3rd set of lifters with 6.4

When they replaced my lifters, they did a fresh oil change with PUP 0w40. Is it wise to get that out of there now to prevent any damage to the new lifters or would any of you recommend keeping it in until like 3-5k? I just don't want to do more damage to these newer lifters by continuing to...

On my 3rd set of lifters with 6.4

When they replaced my lifters, they did an oil change with PUP 0w40. Would it be wise to get that out of there and move to a 5w30 redline or 5w40 redline now or do you think I should wait until at least 3-5k? I just don't want to do more damage. I am in Michigan. Temperatures do commonly get...
