Yep I agree, I just avoid the dealership like the plague and wound up getting the Dee Zee tailgate assist and got lucky that the dropping issue just cured itself....- meedom

I had the problem with the tailgate dropping once in a while on and off for about a year and then all of a sudden it just stopped, so I think after awhile something in the mechanism wears a bit and then all is well. I haven't had the problem in over a year and a half now....- meedom

Just a heads up that you can get the complete plastic cover latch kit assemblies from, if I remember right, Mouse or Mouser electronics for like $6 a piece. I bought 2 for myself just in case and never used them...- meedom
