4th gen vs 5th gen rear axle. ZF 9.25 is a inadequate axle assembly for this truck.

The lower ring gear is my new AAM 3.92 and the upper ring gear is a Yukon 3.90 that was replaced a few years ago. The AAM 3.92 ring gear has 47 teeth and the pinion has 12 teeth. The 3.90 Yukon ring gear only has 39 teeth, which means the pinion only has 10 teeth and it’s substantially...

I run Amsoil severe gear 75-140. Here is an update on the issue, I may have jumped the gun do to prior trauma from all the failures I have had with aftermarket parts in this axle. I pulled the cover and found nothing wrong.. The oil looked great and the lower magnet was not full of metal. I...

How are you mounting it to the differential cover? Are you using a aftermarket cover?

I carry a infrared thermometer in my center console, I have yet to see anything concerning. I did not check it while towing last time but I was driving faster and it was hotter outside than normal. Another nice feature of the maghytec cover is that you can easily install a temperature probe...

I could care less about looks, most people do not buy these covers because of cosmetics but it’s funny to think I am that stupid. Having multiple magnets, oring gasket, and some added capacity is very convenient. It allowed me to know the condition of my gears without having to drop the...

I have the original axle assembly so it will be the one getting new parts installed. When I swap axles I will disassemble and inspect what failed. Hopefully it’s just the pinion bearing but I doubt I would get that lucky. I’m hoping you guys are right and the diff cover is the issue...

4th gen vs 5th gen rear axle. ZF 9.25 is a inadequate axle assembly for this truck.

Thank you for this information, having not seen one of these 5th gens upclose I was not aware of those changes. Maybe the backing plates would swap over with the brake hardware but being a completely different axle manufacturer I find this doubtful. But as far as you know the control arms...

You do not tow often, I tow very frequently and over mountain passes. How often do you tow that boat?

4th gen vs 5th gen rear axle. ZF 9.25 is a inadequate axle assembly for this truck.

Initially I had the factory cover installed but installed the aftermarket cover so I could easily check the condition of the oil and see if there was metal shavings on the dipstick. I have seen the videos and partially agree with what he is saying. I have yet to see any evidence of...

I have never had a problem with pinion bearings.

Does anyone know if a 5th gen axle will bolt in and work on a 4th gen truck! I am at the point we’re I will purchase one directly from RAM if I can make this work. Only other options are selling the truck or having custom brackets welded to a aftermarket Dana 60. I am embarrassed but here is...

4th gen vs 5th gen rear axle. ZF 9.25 is a inadequate axle assembly for this truck.

Although I have had issues with aftermarket limited slips, I am having problems with the ring and pinion failing. I understand people can make these hold up decently well on a drag strip, that is much different than towing up mountain passes. The failures are not related to strength, they are...

4th gen vs 5th gen rear axle. ZF 9.25 is a inadequate axle assembly for this truck.

I have had countless failures of the gear set and limited slip in my 2016 Ram 1500 hemi. The first failures I can’t blame ram for but we’re related to after market parts and me being semi abusive to the truck. I gave up on the aftermarket parts and installed a factory zf 9.25, with factory...

    Blackstone - used oil analysis

Good catch No problem. I plan on doing this every oil change “once a year basically” for peace of mind and for warranty purposes if the need arises. I plan on owning it for a long time, it will be interesting to see what the reports show over the course of its life.

    Blackstone - used oil analysis

Amsoil Signature Series 5W-20 I have been using this oil since I bought the truck. Around 9,000 miles between oil changes “whenever the change oil indicator turns on.” I tow a camp trailer and use my truck to haul dirt bikes around on the weekends.

Longtubes with Cats, what muffler/exhaust are you running and does it drone?

I have ARH catted long tubes, and a magnaflow 24” direct fit muffler “DOD24M”, and stock exhaust after the muffler to the tips. The exhaust tone is so clean and no drone. I get compliments on it frequently. It’s loud at start up and gets louder as you rev it, but normal driving it’s super...

Ready to sell this truck. lol. Alignment issue after Zone UCA install?

Are the strut mount bushings in your control arms blown out or really soft? That can have a big impact on alignment.

Which rear shocks to go with ?

I originally went with bilstein’s “5100” all the way around on my 2016. In less than 60,000 miles all of them have failed. Had the same issue on my wife’s jeep. They look pretty but they are cheap pos shocks. They “bilstein” literally state that it’s normal for the 5100 series t to leak...

    Pulsar tuner

I did a pcm swap through Hemifever tuning and bought a Diablo i3 tuner. I did headers as well due to the typical exhaust manifold failures. Power gain felt substantial, I actually had them turn down throttle sensitivity because it’s so easy to spin the tires and my wife drives the truck...

    Pulsar tuner

I had one, it did not seem to add much power but it turned up the throttle sensitivity way to much to make it appear as though it was very powerful. I also had the truck do some very scary things twice while downshifting going up a hill. It never did it prior to the pulsar, and it never did it...

Has anyone had a problem with AlfaOBD logging into google drive? I have been in contact with AlfaOBD tech support and they have not done anything to remedy the issue. I have google drive, the sign in password and username are correct, I have a OBDLink MX+, and I am using a brand new android...
